Kassandra Kaulius Memorial Scholarship Application Kassandra Kaulius age 22, was a talented young woman working two jobs putting herself through the University of the Fraser Valley studying to become a Teacher. She was a gifted athlete who had attended 2 Colleges in the United States on full ride Softball Scholarships. On May 3, 2011 Kassandra Kaulius was driving home after playing a softball game at the Cloverdale Athletic Park and was 3 blocks from her home, when her car was broadsided while she had the right of way to make a left turn. Kassandra was tragically killed by a drunk driver. Kassandra was a talented athlete who played Softball for 17 years. She played on many Teams including the White Rock Renegades, Delta Heat, Poco Ravens and was an Assistant Coach on the Surrey Storm 97 A Girls Team and a Pitcher on the Surrey Storm Senior Ladies A Team. Her parents Victor and Markita, sister Miranda and brother Nick wanted to honour Kassandra s life and started a Scholarship in her memory to be a legacy to others in pursuit of a higher education. Some of Kassandra s best qualities were that she was always ready to give 100% to everything she did, whether it was a ball practice, ball game, working, or studying. She was always considerate of others and would always be there to cheer other teammates on, and never had a bad word to say about anyone. She was a best friend to everyone and made the commitment to give her best to her sports, academics, and community. These are some of the qualities and some of the criteria that the family will be looking for in the successful candidate that is chosen to be awarded the Kassandra Kaulius Scholarship. Applicant must be in or completed a Grade 12 BC Ministry of Education Graduation Program. 3). Application deadline is June 1, annually. 4). Enclose a transcript of most recent term of study (Photo copy is acceptable). 5). Academic performance is not a determining factor. 6). Applicant must remain in good standing until reaching post secondary education. 7). Enclose a letter of reference from 1 of the following: A). Teacher/Principal B). Coach C). Committee Structure: Kassandra Kaulius Memorial Scholarship Rules and Regulations 1). The members of the Kassandra Kaulius Scholarship Fund committee are voting members of the Scholarship Selection Committee. All decisions made by committee are final. Duties of the Committee: 2). All dispersal of funds and correspondence to successful applicant shall be through the Kaulius family. 3). The B.C. Softball Association shall collect and distribute all applications and other applicable information to the members of the Kassandra Kaulius Memorial Scholarship selection committee. 4). All members of the Kassandra Kaulius Memorial Scholarship committee may make recommendations and vote on proposed changes to the fund. 5). The Kassandra Kaulius Memorial Scholarship application forms are available on the Softball B.C. website www.softball.bc.ca under Services/Forms. Funding of the Scholarship: 1). A maximum of (1) one scholarship valued at $1000.00 will be given out per year through this organization. In the case of a tie between candidates the Scholarship will be divided and each candidate will be awarded the sum of $500.00 each towards their education. The Kaulius family will make the final decision. All decisions made are final. Eligibility: 1). Any minor player registered with a Softball B.C. affiliated Association during the year of application shall be eligible for consideration. 2). Applicant must be registered in or completed a Grade 12 British Columbia Ministry of Education Program. 3). Deadline for applications is June 1, annually. 5
