Catch a Wave! Will you be 11-13 yrs. old before January 1??? Then grab your surfboard and ukulele, and catch a wave at Teen Conference this Spring on the tropical island of Columbia, Missouri! This is the first big trip away from home for many young islanders, and it s an awesome choice that you ll be talking about the rest of the year. Why? Because you ll make about 300 great new friends, learn how to be a better leader and get a heads-up on all the exciting things waiting for you as a 4-H teenager! Teen Conference starts at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 25 th, 2017 and ends at 11 a.m. on the 26 th when your parents join us to pick you up. You MUST BE PRE-REGISTERED (cost is $179), and your parents can sign you up at http://mo.4honline.com from November 15 to January 15. Missouri Youth Civic Leaders Summit March 3-5, 2017 at Windemere Conference Center Ages 14-18 and adult leaders in any club, community or school program Registration is open until February 1, 2017 Cost is $150.00 per person, including two-nights lodging, meals, recreation, workshops and all weekend activities MOVE is back for 2017! And, youth and adults can register for it on 4HOnline!! Enrollment for new and re-enrollment for current MOVErs begins now and continues until May 1 (please make sure to register by May 1 so you can participate in the competition!). As you know, MOVE promotes physical activity and encourages youths to engage in a broad range of activities such as walking, biking, running, swimming, dance, taekwondo, gardening and more. Here s what youth and adults need to do to participate: Enroll in the Move Across Missouri (MOVE) project (HF775) in 4HOnline in their profile. Enrollment in 4-H MOVE does not count as a part of county limits on projects. 4-Hers and adults can register for the competitive event as individuals and/or as part of a team. An individual MOVEr may also be a part of a team. A team can consist of a family or members of a 4-H club or group. MOVE awards will be provided. The Missouri 4-H Mannequin Challenge What is a Mannequin Challenge? The Mannequin Challenge is a viral Internet video trend where people remain frozen in action like mannequins while a short video is recorded. Professional athletes and sports teams that have posted increasingly complex and elaborate videos. Do a search for #mannequinchallenge on your favorite social media site to learn more! Eligibility Must have five or more members in your club or program to submit one video. The meat industry is an important component in Missouri agriculture. The Meat Identification and Judging Contest has been developed to encourage 4-H members to develop skills and abilities needed to enter and advance in careers in the meat industry. These activities are designed to encourage the development of broader analytical skills, critical thinking, the use and understanding of appropriate meat terminology, and the evaluation of meat animal products to optimize economic returns not only to them as producers, but to them as consumers as well. NW REGIONAL ENERGIZER Mark your calendar! Come join with 4-H families from the 19-county region for the 2016 Northwest Regional 4-H Energizer on Saturday, February 4 at the Cameron School from 9:00 am - 2:30 pm to participate in a variety of workshops and activities. It s--- A Day of 4-H learning for all ages--clover Kids, youth & adults; along with community service projects, tasty food and fun. What a great way to get new ideas, meet new people, and find out about other programs 4-H offers! The cost is $10/person, with meal included.
Carroll County 4-H seeks 2016-2017 County Youth Liaison A County Youth Liaison (CYL) must meet the criteria listed below. Is between the ages of 13-18, as of January 1st. Must be in good standing with their community, club and school Must have a thorough knowledge of what 4-H is and its purpose as an organization. Must be willing to visit fellow clubs throughout the county and must see their position as a serious duty. Must be in regular contact with their 4-H Youth Specialist or YPA. Throughout the year, the CYL s responsibilities will require the ability to: Promote 4-H for all youth within the county. Be responsible for communicating with County 4-H Club Vice-Presidents and State 4-H Council Regional Representative. Guide fellow members in knowledge of state and national trips, county and state events and how to fully participate in a county s 4-H program. Be enthusiastic about 4-H and offer information about opportunities to those who may not know of such events. For more information and an application form, please contact the Extension Center. Applications will be taken through November 30th or until position is filled. Event Registration and Project Leaders Log-in Until membership is in Active Status, the following items will not open for members to access: All members will not be able to access registration for events and any project leaders will not be able to log-in the project membership list. Active Membership: Youth Dues are Paid & Approval, Volunteer LG639, Orientation & Approval. There will be a Cattle Clinic for youth participating in Beef and Bucket Calves. This will be held on Jan. 21. at 1 P.M. at the Youth Building.
Clover Kids and Parents may register for Regional Energizer on February 4th at the Cameron Middle School. Forms were available in the December Newsletter or will be available at the Extension Office. Forms are due to the Extension Office by Jan. 20th. Happy Hustlers Clover Kids will meet on January 8th at 3:00. Clover Kids are also invited to attend the Achievement Day Mini Camp on Jan. 8th at 1:00. Bosworth Fireball Clover Kids will meet on January 15th at the 4-H Youth Building. Indoor Snow People If you have snow accumulation, try this activity. Materials/Supplies Clean snow Plastic containers or plates Bucket for snow Mittens Small containers Colorful fabric for trim, buttons, raisins, etc. Bring a bucket of clean snow inside. Have each child put on mittens or gloves and build snow people in the plastic container or on the plate. Decorate with a strip of fabric for a scarf, and add eyes and a nose. For variations, create other snow creatures or spray paint the snow. If you don t have snow where you live, create clean snow by grating up bars of Ivory Soap. The gratings are easy to mold into shapes.
