PLANNING FOR OUR COMMUNITY TOGETHER INTRODUCTION Community Outcomes have been defined as what the community sees as important for the whole community now and looking forward. These outcomes have been defined by the community and are not specifically restricted to Council functions, as they include everything the community sees as precedence for identifying who we are, how we stand, how we grow, what we value, and how we look after each other now and in the future. HOW WILL THE COUNCIL CONTRIBUTE TO FURTHERING THE COMMUNITY OUTCOMES? The Community Outcomes have been identified as the areas of priority to the Buller district community for the next 10 years. These are the communities goals. Council is not solely responsible for the delivery of these outcomes. Rather, our role is to work with the community, other organisations and groups to help us achieve these outcomes as a community. Council s role is to look at these outcomes and identify how we can assist the community meet these goals. When we develop our Long Term Plan and identify areas for funding and development we have these community s goals in mind. Council fund a range of services or activities and these are identified later in this Long Term Plan. You will see that each activity statement identifies how the services we are providing is contributing towards furthering the community outcomes. Council has many roles in assisting the community and have listed some of these below. We have identified how we see Council s role in assisting the community to further each of their outcomes. Prosperity This is a change that has arisen under the Local Government Act 2002. The Local Government Act 2002 requires Council to not just undertake particular tasks or activities, but to promote community well-being and to take a lead role in promoting the social, economic, environmental and cultural aspects of our district. 42 Buller District Council 2018-2028 Long Term Plan

ACHIEVING THE COMMUNITY S GOALS Although we have a key role to play, Community Outcomes are not solely the responsibility of Councils. Council will ensure these Community Outcomes are considered in all decision making, this will include all reports to Council and resolutions actioned.
