NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde: North Sector The North Glasgow Sector has 3 areas for Acute Care. These 3 main hospitals are Stobhill (Day surgery, Clinics and Older people services), Lightburn (Day surgery, Clinics and Older people services) and Glasgow Royal Infirmary (GRI), General and speciality medical and surgical specialities. A new Bereavement Centre has been commissioned within Glasgow Royal Infirmary site. Staff working within the North sector work towards patient centred care in all departments and so you should be a candidate with a can do attitude and embrace change. Medical and Emergency Care Emergency service within GRI has over 250 presentations through A&E and AAU and 68 AMRU beds. Patients then are admitted routinely or via emergency care to speciality medical wards including Acute Stroke unit, rheumatology, 4 cardiac speciality areas, specialist Gastro-enterology and diabetic services. Older people services also have an extensive acute wards with supported developments in A&E assessment and rehabilitation wards. There is also an 8 bedded MHDU that is supported with a dedicated educationalist and robust competency programme. Within all medical and emergency care a rotational skills programme is offered to enhance learning and retain staff members. Access to ANP and further training, Quality initiatives and patient focussed care is at the forefront of training and support. Surgery North Sector Theatres work from 2 operational sites Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Stobhill Day Surgery Unit. Both sites work in tandem as a team. Within the Theatre Department you will have the opportunity to become involved in an exciting, vibrant and fast paced environment where innovation and advancement are both encouraged and supported. We also offer an in-house Anaesthetic Practitioner course and Scrub Practitioner course that are accredited by our partner Universities and taught by our own very experienced and dedicated Practice Education Team. The surgical wards contain surgical specialities that include General, Orthopaedic -including specialist and general procedures and rehabilitation. Specialities and large complex surgery includes Gynaecology, Urology, Plastics, Bariatric, Ophthalmology, Renal, Pain and Theatres also perform minor plastic surgery procedures and support the regional ECT service. Within the surgical specialities there are dedicated CNS services that are available to support and develop ward staff. Specialities include Acute Addiction, Bariatric, Colorectal cancer, Diabetes, Enhanced Recovery, Falls specialist, Pain, Palliative Care, Nutrition, Sarcoma, Stoma and Tissue Viability. The Critical Care Nurses are part of an enthusiastic and innovative team within Intensive Care Unit/High Dependency service with an expectation to rotate between 3 critical care units within Glasgow Royal Infirmary totalling 28 beds to a defined patient group who require complex interventions in the form of ventilatory support, either invasively or non invasively, cardiovascular support and renal support (Dialysis). Glasgow Royal Infirmary also provides ICU/HDU tertiary support for the specialities of Burns and plastics; pancreatitis and specialist orthopaedic services. Critical Care offer a 12 month Competency

Based Programme and external University accredited courses. There is an established Quality Improvement programme directed by the multidisciplinary team. We offer all nursing staff real personal development and mentorship opportunities from commencement of employment. All trained band 5 staff appointed within the North Cohort will have a dedicated local induction package within a portfolio format. There will be supported Mandatory learning and learning development. Development for RN day occur covering a variety of key topics to support best practice. These include a research, quality assurance and quality improvement sessions. As newly Qualified Nurse (NQN) have staff dedicated to support and facilitate completion of induction objectives and providing support appropriate to the NQN individual learning needs. This is in addition to the support of the ward preceptors. Practice Educator Facilitators also support with Flying Start and other learning opportunities. Suitable accredited courses will be offered to dedicated and professional staff members who fulfil and meet essential criteria. Education and learning teams provide self development with individual courses geared to your needs, from IT to management. We have good links with many local partner Universities who can offer academic advancement. The North have a close knit team of Lead Nurses and Management teams whom will support developmental requirements and skill sets including ANP, where available and suitable to your working area.
