Rhode Island Rainbow Girls THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU to all of our Masonic Family and especially Grand Lodge for your support over the last four years as we prepared for Supreme Assembly 2016 in our own Providence. We were excited to welcome 1404 girls and adults from around the world to our own little state. All six New England jurisdictions joined together to make this a huge success. Thank you to the Shrine for the great tote bags and some of the contents in them. We truly appreciated your support. We heard nothing but compliments about our state, our Masonic Youth Center, the food during the convention, and the warmth and hospitality of those people in Rhode Island. Everyone was really impressed by the support of our Grand Lodge and said a special thank you for the barbeque and the fire works. Many of the girls from the middle of the country had never seen any part of the Atlantic Ocean and our beautiful bay. We were also very excited when our opening and closing ritual team earned SECOND place in the International Ritual competition. This was our first time competing in the team category. The girls are already talking about having a team participate in 2018 in Hampton, Virginia. Our next big adventure is the Be our guest dinner and dance on Saturday, November 5th at Grand Lodge. Tickets are only $20 and may be obtained by calling Grand Charity, Amanda Grace, 401-207-6636 or her advisor, Mom Kristen Lawson, at 401-556-5986. All tickets must be paid for. Checks should be made out to the Rhode Island Rainbow Girls Foundation. Dinner at 5 PM with dancing until 9 PM. The proceeds will go to this year s charity, MADD. We look forward to many of our Masonic family members supporting us in this venture. Our annual Grand Cross of Color luncheon will be held on Sunday, November 13th at 1 PM at Chelos on Post Road in Warwick. This is a members only event. Notices went out in September. If you didn t receive yours, please contact Mom Lynn at rirainbowgirls@aol.com. The Junior Grand Executive Committee From the Desk of Fezzy the Artisan Welcome all to October! The Artisans Steak fry was a huge success. If you missed it, you missed a great $20.00 meal with very tender steak, cooked to order. Thanks to the Chief for the expert grilling, and all the Artisans that helped with setup-breakdown, or showed up for the meal. Thanks also to the kitchen staff, and bar tenders for their support. Speaking of meals, this is a good time to plug the After the Holidays Game Dinner. If you have not been, it is a wonderful meal from which no one leaves hungry. I will be plugging this for the next few months, but now is a good time to start. We came close to a sellout last year, and would like to see the sellout this time. We have 2 parades left for the season, and would like to see as many Artisans attend as possible. Columbus Day in Providence, and autumn fest in Woonsocket. I have had to work every year on the Woonsocket parade day, but will attend this year for the first time. Please make it yours too, if you have not been before. If you need information on parades, or any activities, please attend the next meeting. We meet on the 4th Thursday each month, except for November, and December (one week earlier). November meeting will be on the 17th, and December meeting on the 15th. If you have questions, suggestions, or how to join the Artisans, please send me an email at this address: striderdav@yahoo.com Fraternally, Fezzy 6

Advanced Burn Life Support program offered at the Boston Shriners Hospital To further its commitment to educating clinicians and emergency responders, Shriners Hospitals for Children Boston offers an American Burn Association approved Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS) program. The one-day course focuses on stabilization treatments for burn patients within the first 24 hours of injury. The format consists of a half-day lecture that includes hands-on training with real burn injury scenarios, as well as interactive and written exams. Courses are available at Shriners Hospitals for Children Boston or at off-site locations by request. Rich Grady, RN, nurse manager of the acute care unit at the Boston Shriners Hospital has been an instructor for more than four years and leads the team of Shriners ABLS facilitators. Milagros Troche, support services supervisor at the Boston Shriners Hospital was recently appointed course coordinator. All instructors are certified by the American Burn Association. The skills course participants learn in this ABLS program can prove to be lifesaving. For example, when a person sustains a severe burn injury, it is essential that fluid levels be maintained during transport. An EMS responder from New Hampshire recently transported a patient to the Boston Shriners Hospital and informed Grady that he applied the fluids training he learned from the Shriners Hospital team during a course just a month earlier during the transport of the patient. His experience underscores how important it is that first responders and emergency room staff have access to this important training. For more information about upcoming course dates and fees, please contact course coordinators: Milagros Troche at 617-371-4855 Rich Grady at 617-371-4792 7
