The Annual Convention is open to only members of the ISSS and others are not eligible to register for the Convention. Convention Features 1. Celebration of International Year of Soil (IYS) 2015 2. Special Symposium on "Soil Health : Concept, Status and Monitoring" 3. National Seminar on "Developments in Soil Science - 2015" 4. The 33 rd Prof. J.N. Mukherjee-ISSS Foundation Lecture 5. The 42 nd Dr R.V. Tamhane Memorial Lecture 6. Presentation by the Doctoral Research Award Contestants HOW TO PREPARE? National Seminar on "Developments in Soil Science - 2015" * Abstracts of original research papers on any topic in Soil Science are invited from members of ISSS for presentation in the National Seminar. * Each abstract is to be a self-contained one prepared in not more than 500 words, stating briefly the objective(s), methodology and major findings. Table(s) or illustrations will not be accepted. * Abstracts should be prepared with due care, tightly worded, avoiding superfluous description of experimental details and an abstract should not be too brief either. * Each abstract should be typed neatly in double line space on good quality A4 size paper and TWO copies are required to be submitted. Additionally the electronic copy of the abstract MUST be submitted through email on isss1934@gmail.com. WHO CAN COMMUNICATE? * Only a member of ISSS is eligible to submit an abstract in which his/ her name appears as the sole author or as one of the authors. * At least one of the authors of the Abstract should be a member of ISSS. * Hard copy of every abstract should be accompanied, without fail, by the duly filled-in proforma on "Details of the Paper for National Seminar". * Only those abstracts meeting the above requirements and further subjected to peer review and found suitable will be allowed presentation in the Seminar. WHEN TO SUBMIT? * The last date of receipt of Abstract (along with the proforma of "Details of the Paper for National Seminar") in ISSS office in New Delhi is 22 September 2015. WHO CAN PRESENT? * One of the authors, who is a member of ISSS not in arrears of membership subscription for the year 2015 and registering as a delegate by paying the Registration Fee of the Convention will only be allowed to present the abstract in oral or poster session. No proxy presentation is permissible.

WHO CAN MAKE ORAL PRESENTATION? * Presentation of an abstract in oral session will be permitted only when the abstract has been accepted for oral presentation and also one of the authors (who is a member of ISSS) deposits the Registration fee of Rs 3000/- with the Society Headquarters at New Delhi on or before 30 October 2015. If Registration fee is paid after 30 October 2015, presentation of paper will be allowed in poster session only, even if that paper had initially been accepted for presentation in oral session. WHICH ABSTRACT WILL BE PRINTED ELECTRONICALLY? * Only those abstracts which are received in the ISSS office by due date of 22 Septemebr 2015 and presented during the Convention will be post printed electronically. * Poster sessions will also be arranged and members are requested to opt for poster presentation in large number. * Full papers are not to be submitted. Registration Fee Registration fee of Rs 3000/- (Rs 1000/- in case of students) is to be paid in advance by each delegate to the Secretary, Indian Society of Soil Science, Ist Floor, National Societies Block, National Agricultural Science Centre Complex, Dev Prakash Shastri Marg, Pusa, New Delhi - 110012 either in cash/ money order or in the form of a bank draft drawn in favour of "Indian Society of Soil Science" and payable on any bank in New Delhi so as to reach the ISSS headquarters by 30 October 2015. Subsequently the registration fee will be accepted only in cash at the venue of Convention on 5 December 2015 onwards. Outstation cheques will not be accepted. Registration fee once paid will neither be refunded nor transferred to any other purpose or person. Accommodation A limited No. of rooms are available in UAS-B/ICAR institutes around GKVK and Hebbal, Bangalore. Accommodation to the delegates will be provided on first-come-first-served basis on payment. The delegates are requested to make an advance payment of Rs. 2000/- per head by sending the details of their stay in the prescribed format to the organizers at Bangalore. The delegates arriving with their spouses shall be provided with hotel accommodation on prior intimation and payment of the amount. In a year either the nomination for Fellowship or an application for an Award only will be considered and not for both, in respect of an eligible member. Similarly one can apply during a single year either for 12 th International Congress Commemoration Award or ISSS-Dr. J.S.P. Yadav Memorial Award or Prof. Sant Singh Memorial Award for Excellence in Education and Research in Soil Science. 1. Fellows The Honorary Members and Fellows of ISSS are invited to nominate eligible members for Fellowship of ISSS, which is conferred on an individual in recognition of his/ her professional outstanding contributions and service to the ISSS. Total number of persons to be bestowed with Fellowship of ISSS during the year 2015 shall not exceed FOUR. To be eligible for nomination for the Fellowship, an individual must have been a sustaining Life Member or Member (not in arrears of subscription) for at least last ten consecutive years. Honorary Members and the Platinum Jubilee Commemoration awardees are not eligible to apply for this award. The nomination (six copies) will be made in each case at least by TWO Honorary Members/ Fellows in the prescribed proforma (obtainable from ISSS office or downloadable from http://isss-india.org/ images/doc_file/fellowship.pdf). In a year, an Honorary Member/ Fellow can make not more than ONE nomination. Nomination once made shall remain valid for three years. The newly inducted Fellows shall be formally admitted at the Annual Convention and presented with a citation. The last date for receiving the nominations in the prescribed proforma at the Society s office is 25 August 2015. 2. The Twelfth International Congress Commemoration Award Applications are invited in the prescribed proforma (obtainable from ISSS office or downloadable from http://isss-india.org/images/doc_file/12thapplication.pdf) from the members of the ISSS, irrespective of age for this award. Each applicant is required to furnish six copies of the application complete in all respects, giving evidence of creating a school of research, providing leadership and/ or making independent outstanding contribution in any branch of Soil Science. The Awardee shall be honoured with a gold-plated medal and a citation at the Annual Convention of ISSS. The last date of receiving the applications in the prescribed proforma complete in all respects at the headquarters of the Society is 25 August 2015. 3. ISSS Dr. J.S.P. Yadav Memorial Award for Excellence in Soil Science Applications are invited in the prescribed proforma (obtainable from ISSS office or downloadable from http://isss-india.org/images/doc_file/dryadav.pdf) from the members of the ISSS or the team in the area of basic/ applied aspects of soil science for sustainable high productivity. In case of the team one of the members shall be the active member of the ISSS. Each applicant is required to furnish six copies of the application complete in all respects, giving a concise account (not more than 500 words) of the work supported by a documentary evidence of the excellence of the work by the best five original research papers published in not less than three different peer-review journals of repute, and also a brief description of (a) products developed and patent(s) granted/ commercialized, and (b) viable technologies developed in India or any other well-recognized international organization based in India. The Awardee shall be honoured with a gold-plated medal and a citation at the Annual Convention of ISSS. The last date of receiving the applications in the prescribed proforma complete in all respects at the headquarters of the Society is 25 August 2015.

4. Prof. Sant Singh Memorial Award for Excellence in Education and Research in Soil Science Applications are invited in the prescribed proforma (obtainable from ISSS office or downloadable from http://isss-india.org/images/doc_file/profsingh.pdf) from the members of the ISSS. Each applicant is required to furnish six copies of the application complete in all respects, giving a concise account of the work (not more than 500 words each for teaching and research) supported by documentary evidence in the form of: (a) For the assessment of teaching: A certificate from Dean/Director of the Faculty/ Institute authenticating contribution of the applicant in development /revision of course curriculum, copies of teaching materials like books, book chapters, manuals, models, bulletins, technical folders, e- courses, e-lectures developed, list of courses taught at UG/PG levels, number of M.Sc. and Ph.D. students supervised and quality of students/human resources as evident by their placements; and (b) For the assessment of research: Best five original research papers published in not less than three different peer-review journals of repute. The Awardee shall be honoured with a gold-plated medal and a citation at the Annual Convention of ISSS. The last date of receiving the applications in the prescribed proforma complete in all respects at the headquarters of the Society is 25 August 2015. 5. The Golden Jubilee Commemoration Young Scientist Award This award, given annually to an individual in recognition of his/ her professional contributions in Soil Science, is open to members of the ISSS who are not more than 40 years of age as on 31 December 2015. The work done for any degree or diploma by the applicant shall not be considered within the purview of the contributions in judging the award. Eligible members of the ISSS can apply (six copies complete sets) for this award in the prescribed proforma (obtainable from ISSS office or downloadable from http://isss-india.org/images/doc_file/goldenjubilee.pdf). The awardee shall be honoured with a gold-plated medal and a citation at the Annual Convention. The last date of receipt of applications in the prescribed proforma complete in all respects at the headquarters of the Society is 25 August 2015. 6. ISSS Best Doctoral Research Presentation Award This award, given annually to an individual, is in recognition of the best presentation of doctoral research work done in Soil Science in India. Eligibility: A recipient of Doctoral degree in Soil Science, irrespective of age and membership of ISSS is eligible to apply for this award in the prescribed proforma (obtainable from ISSS office or downloadable from http://isss-india.org/images/doc_file/bestdoctoral.pdf). However, that person should have either completed all the requirements so as to become eligible for the award of Doctoral degree (or received Doctoral degree) of a University (recognized by the University Grants Commission) or an Institute/ Organization (conferred with the status of 'Deemed to be University' in India) any time between 1 July 2014 and 30 June 2015 (both days inclusive). Preliminary Round of Contest: The contest for this award will be organized in two rounds. The preliminary round will be organized on the zonal basis by four Chapters of ISSS, one in each of the four zones (as delineated for the purpose of holding ISSS Zonal Awards). This first round of contest in each zone is meant for selecting not more than two contestants from that particular zone. The Chapters delineated for holding first round ISSS Best Doctoral Research Presentation Award Contest in 2015 are: Ranchi East Zone, Anand West Zone, Hisar North Zone and Coimbatore South Zone Final Round of Contest: All the contestants selected at the zonal level in the preliminary round will then be invited to participate in the final round of contest that will be organized by ISSS during its Annual Convention at UAS, Bangalore. Additional Requirement: The contestants participating in the preliminary as well as final round shall be required to make available a copy of their theses/ dissertations to the Judging Committee at the time of contest for consultation.

Presentation of Award: The single winner of the award from among the contestants in the final round will be honoured with a citation and a gold-plated medal at the Concluding Session of the Annual Convention, while all the other contestants in the final round will be given commendation certificates. Travel Support for Participation: Each Chapter of ISSS is entitled to nominate not more than two contestants fulfilling all the requirements, to participate in the contest at the zonal level and such nominees of Chapters shall be eligible to receive travel grant from ISSS, limited to two single second class rail or ordinary bus fare from the place of their normal residence/ work to the venue of the zonal award contest. Intending candidates desirous of availing this financial support should route their applications through a Chapter of ISSS, whose decision insofar as recommendation for financial support shall be final. Last Date of Application: The last date of receipt of applications in the prescribed proforma complete in all respects at the headquarters of the Society is 25 August 2015. 7. The Indian Society of Soil Science Zonal Awards These awards, four in number, are exclusively meant for holders of Master's degree in Soil Science and giving best presentation of research work carried out by them during the Master's degree programme. Only the work done in India for Master's degree will be eligible for this award. There is one award comprising a gold-plated medal and a citation for each of the East, West, North and South zones of India. The Council of ISSS has already decided on the States and Union Territories to be covered in each zone for the year 2015 and also identified the Chapter of ISSS (Ranchi East Zone, Anand West Zone, Hisar North Zone and Coimbatore South Zone), which will organise the contest in each zone. Eligibility: This contest is open to candidates in India, irrespective of the fact whether they are members of the ISSS or not, but fulfilling the following essential requirements. * Must be a Master's degree holder in Soil Science from a recognized university or an institute/ organization deemed to be university in India. * Must have specialized in Soil Science and/ or Agricultural Chemistry at the Master's degree level. * Must have submitted a Thesis/ Dissertation in partial/ full requirement of the Master's degree. * Must have completed all the requirements so as to become eligible for the award of Master's degree or received the Master's degree any time during the period from 1 July 2014 to 30 June 2015 (both days inclusive). Application: The intending applicants are required to submit their applications in the prescribed proforma (supplied by ISSS office on request or downloadable from http://isss-india.org/images/ doc_file/zonalaward.pdf) to ISSS office on or before 25 August 2015. The contestants shall be required to make available a copy of their theses/ dissertations to the Judging Committee at the time of contest for consultation. Travel Support for Participation: Each Chapter of ISSS is entitled to nominate not more than two contestants fulfilling all the requirements, to participate in the zonal awards contest and such nominees of Chapters shall be eligible to receive travel grant from ISSS, limited to two single second class rail or ordinary bus fare from the place of their normal residence/ work to the venue of the zonal award contest. Intending candidates desirous of availing this financial support should route their applications through a Chapter of ISSS, whose decision insofar as recommendation for financial support shall be final. Presentation of Award: Each awardee will be presented with a gold-plated medal and a citation at the end of the contest by the Chapter of ISSS organizing the contest for and on behalf of the ISSS. Important Notes An individual already received an award from the Society should not be considered for the next higher award within the cooling period of next three years. A candidate once received an award he/she should not be eligible for the award which is listed after that particular award as mentioned in Rules and Regulations of ISSS.
