AMES UNITED METHODIST CHURCH SCHOLARSHIP The Ames United Methodist Church Scholarship Committee has a fundamental mission to assist in increasing the number of Christian scholars in all career areas through financial assistance for college. Since 2003, the committee has provided scholarships to deserving high school students at Ames United Methodist Church through the Oliver W. Colbert Joseph Bond Memorial Scholarship Fund and several church auxiliary sponsored scholarships. In 2011, the Ames United Methodist Church Scholarship Committee expanded guidelines and criteria to support deserving students from Harford County, Maryland who are members of a church or a place of worship and who would matriculate at two and four-year accredited institutions of higher education or career schools to qualify for a scholarship. The Ames United Methodist Church Scholarship Committee reviews applications, interviews, and selects all recipients of the program s funds. The motto of the Ames Scholarship Committee is, Supporting Christian Scholars Is an Investment in the Future.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS AND CONSIDERATIONS To apply for this scholarship, the students must: 1. Be a resident of Harford County, Maryland. 2. Be an active member of a church or place of worship. Candidate must have actively participated in programs available at /or sponsored by church or place of worship for 12 months prior to applying. 3. Submit name of church or place or worship, name of clergyperson, phone number and e- mail address (if e-mail address is available). 4. Have received and submitted an acceptance letter in good standing from an accredited institute of higher learning. 5. Be a full time enrolled student at an accredited institute of higher learning. 6. Be entering the first year at an accredited institute of higher education. 7. Must have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 at the time of application. 8. Submit three reference letters. One from a high school teacher, one from community person, and one from a member of church or place of worship. 9. Candidate must submit evidence of active community services. 10. Submit a Student Statement/Essay (see application). 11. Submit a High School transcript. 12. Be able to attend an interview by the Ames Scholarship Committee if selected as a finalist. Applicants must submit applications on time. Completed applications must be postmarked by May 1, 2013. All incomplete and late received applications will be rejected and returned to the applicant with no further action taken for considerations by the Scholarship Committee.
