Description This report provides employment industry of graduates and certificate completers by program, as identified in ODHE s Higher Education Information System (HEI). The report includes a list of programs by Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) code, separately for each level of degree or certificate and each campus (for four-year universities). We report graduates and certificate completers who finish during the terms summer 2008 through spring 2013, along with the number found working in Ohio two calendar quarters after the date of graduation or completion, and the breakdown of industry of employment for each program. Note that because we do not report groups of fewer than 10 individuals, there are many graduates working in industries that are not reported due to the fact that fewer than 10 from a particular program were found in that industry. Methods Individual graduates and certificate completers were identified through HEI. HEI provides the level of degree, a term of graduation, and the subject of the degree (by CIP code). In addition, for all four-year schools (except Ohio State), HEI provides the campus from which the individual graduated. Using these variables we identified the individuals graduating or completing a certificate, by level, by subject, by campus. An individual may appear in more than one category. For example, if an individual earned a bachelor s degree in both math and biology, the person would add to the number of graduates in both groups. However, an individual will only be counted one time in each category. For example, if the individual earns two certificates in welding at the same campus, the person would only be counted once. If a person earns multiple degrees or certificates, employment is identified two quarters after the most recent degree or certificate earned between summer 2008 and spring 2013. The industry of employment in which individual graduates and completers were found was identified by matching the individuals identified in HEI with administrative records from the Unemployment Insurance (UI) system. The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services collect quarterly earnings from all employers in Ohio who are required to report to the UI system, including the industry of that employer (categorized by North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code). As a result, the UI wage data include only those individuals working in Ohio who are neither Federal employees nor self-employed; those groups of individuals do not pay into Ohio s unemployment insurance system, and thus are not captured by the UI administrative data. For reference, in Ohio in 2010 about 1.5% of workers were Federal employees, and about 5% of workers were self-employed. 1 OERC reports outcomes only for those groups of 10 or more individuals, to avoid re-identification of any particular individual. There are some combinations of campus, level, and subject that have fewer than 10 graduates, even over five years. Further, there are a number of categories of industry that are not reported because fewer than 10 graduates from a particular program are found working in that industry. 1 Bureau of Labor Market Information, Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, Industry Detail, http://ohiolmi.com/proj/ohiojoboutlook.htm (accessed February 19, 2016). www.oerc.osu.edu oerc@oerc.osu.edu (855) 231-7753

The program line identifies the number of graduates, and how many were found employed in in Ohio two calendar quarters following graduation. This line shows 263 associate s degrees in computer systems analysis; of those, 207 were found working in Ohio. These are the industries that at least ten graduates of the computer systems analysis program were found working. Each report is organized by level of degree. All programs following this header are associates-level graduates. These columns show the number and percent of Ohioemployed graduates in each industry. For example, 17% of Akron s associate slevel graduates in computer systems analysis who were found working in Ohio were employed in the Professional, Scientific, and Technical industry. Because we can only report groups of at least 10 people, there are quite a few degree programs with only one industry reported. For example, manufacturing engineering tech graduates are primarily found in Manufacturing (85%).
