Mobile Construction Battalion TEN was deployed to Camp Hoover, Danang, Republic of Vietnam to provide construction support for U. s. Military Forces from May 1966 to February 1967. 3. Unit Movements a. The first flight of MCB TEN's main body departed Port Hueneme, Cal.ifornia on 11 May 1966 by MAC aircraft; the last main body flight arrited at Danang Air Base, Republic of Vietnam, on 18 May 1966. A total of six C-141 aircraft were used in the movement. b. On 2 September 1966, Seabee Team 1007 departed Toy Kinb Province, Republic of Vietnam and was disestablished upon arrival at Ca.mp Hoover on 9 September 1966.

PRATHER, CEC, USN, Officer in Charge, departed for 31 NCR via VR-21 aircraft on 17 December 1966. g. The first flight of MCB TEN's main body departed Danang on 27 January 1967 via MAC aircraft. C. HUSBAND, CEC, USN, Commander, Naval Facilities Engineering Command. RADM R. R. WOODING, CEC, USN, Commander, THIRD Naval Construction Brigade and CA.Pr P. E. SEUFER, CEC, USN, Officer in Charge of Construction, Republic of Vietnam, and other Civil F;ngineer C.orps officers were present. 20 Jul 1966 - The 5,000 seat amphitheater at the III MAF Hecreation Center Complex was completed. l Sep 1966 - III MAF Confinement Faciiity was completed. 2

NMCB10/30:ajg 11 Oct 1966 - 'l'he 3, 900 foot runway at Khe Sanh was completed and opened to C-130 aircraft. 25 Oct 1966 - Completed lay down of asphaltic concrete to complete construction of the 30, 000 square yard parking apron for the lat MAW at Danang Air Base. 30 Oct 1966 - RADM w. H. HEAMAN, CD:, USN, COMCBPAC ; RADM H. N. wallin, CEX:, USN, NAVFACENGCOM, and CA.PT P. E. SEUFER, CEC, USN,. OICC, RVN visited Camp Hoover. 16 Nov 1966 - Work on the upgrading of the An Hoa airfield to provide an all-weather 2, 500 foot runway was completed. 7 Jan 1967 - MCB TEN and MCB FOUR commenced the first in-country Supply Overhaul Availability Program (SOAP). 22 Jan 1967 - SOAP was completed. Also, the 165 foot long, 60 ton capacity bridge spanning the Sang Tuy Loan River at its junction with Route #5 was completed. 22 Jan 1967 - The following officers were on board Camp Hoover for a reception: ttgen L. W. WALT, USMC, CG, III MAF; MGEN H. NICKERSON, USMC, CG, lst MARDIV; RADM T. C. WESCHLER, USN, COMNSA ONG; RADM P. E. SEUFER, C.EX::, USN, COM3NCB; BGEN H. C. OwENS, USMC, Ass't Wing COMDR,.lST MAW; BGEN J. E. HERBOLD, JR., USMC, CG, FLC. 2 4 Jan 1967 - The Battalion Equipment Evaluation Program ( BEEP) on MCB TEN equipment was completed and the.equipment turned over to the custody of MCB FOUR. 27 Jan 1967 - RADM A. C. HUSBAND, C&::, USN, Commander, NAVFACENGCOM, visited Camp Hoover.......... ~ 29 Jan 1967 ~ ::..: -.. rhe Commanding Officer, MCB TEN turned over the command of Camp Hoover to Commanding Officer, MCB FOUR. 7 F'e-b 1967 The last flight of MCB TEN ' s main body arrived at Point Mugu Naval Air Station. 5. Major Problems. As could be expected, numerous problems arose during the deployment which handicapped the operation of the battalion. Most of these problems such as shortage of construction workload, construction backlog and 3

NMCBlO/ :SO: ajg 5215/1 shortages i n critical construction materials were corrunon to all battalions and are t o be expected in an ever changing set of cir cumst ances such as existed during the period in Vietnam. In some of these areas the battalion wae able to take action which alleviated the problems and are worthy of cµ.ssemination to other commands.
