Rev. 9.28.18WM SCHOOL CLUB DESCRIPTION PAST/PLANNED ACTIVITIES FACULTY ADVISOR(S) DAY/TIME NOTES ACADEMIC BOWL To give team members an opportunity to enhance their teamwork skills, good citizenship qualities, poise, confidence and academic knowledge in a fun, competitive environment. Team practices focus on subject area and game strategy. To work as a team and strive to win county, region, & state championships via bowl competitions. It focuses on serving local communities by equipping, empowering, and encouraging people to make a difference through their faith. FCA is open to all and not limited to athletes. Jam sessions for students to share techniques and to learn fingering, chords, etc. from each other & the sponsors. HELEN RUFFIN READING BOWL A competitive reading team Met bi-monthly to prepare for focused on turning students onto competition in January. HUSKY HOOLIGANS SOCCER CLUB A soccer club open to competitive players who like to scrimmage. Get together for soccer and fellowship through scrimmages in the wood gym. Coach Morris Megan Mack 1st Friday of each month in the gym. 8:00-8:45 Doors lock at 8:15 INTERCLUB COUNCIL To provide feedback to principal on school climate and academics. Laura Montgomery Meeting 3-4 times a year with the principal. 8:00-9:00. Dates to be determined. Members of this club are representaives from HTMS clubs. INTRAMURALS To provide the opportunity of additional practice, self-testing and unique activities not feasible during regular class period. Intramural are student oriented, offering a wide variety of activities. All participants have an equal opportunity to play and focus on fun, enjoyment, and effort rather than winning. JEW CREW Not a school sponsored event Breakfast, community service projects, Jewish education The HTMS Jew Crew is a group opportunities of students who meet monthly to enrich his/her life with Jewish values and culture. Meetings include breakfast, community service projects, learning opportunities and social interaction with those with the same religious beliefs. The club is open to all 6-8th graders. LUNCH BUNCH To provide positive social opportunities for students to engage with others from around the school. Students eat lunch and enjoy talking with new friends playing games, dancing, etc. in an accepting environment. Activities vary weekly but may include: cornhole,bingo, Uno, lifesized Jenga, Legos, coloring, etc. Past activities include games, arts & crafts, holidy parties Amy Moor Most Fridays during lunch in the 8th grade commons MATH COUNTS To allow students the opportunity to collaborate and engage in problem solving & enrich the experience with Math. Open to 6 th 8 th graders. Three county Math competitions on Monday nights throughout the year - One county competition on a Saturday - Georgia state competition Janet Grooms Teresa Mullaney Jenny Bobb Wednesdays 8:00 am ORCHESTRA - CHAMBER To provide enrichment for more advanced players in orchestra Paul O'Keefe Michael Tompkins Monday mornings 8:00 8:45 am. (For specific times & dates, refer to the Orchestra Calendar on the website) PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB To learn how to use your camera. Gain understanding of composition and how technique can help you get impactful images. Joel Blacher Once or twice a month before school - TBD RUNNING CLUB To promote physical activity and a love of running. To prepare students who may want to pursue track or cross-country in High School. Sara Jackson Alli Earnest Every Tuesday & Thursday 4:30-5pm, pick up is promptly at 5:00 in the bus lanes. SCIENCE OLYMPIAD One of the premier science competitions in the nation, providing rigorous, standardsbased challenges to a team of 15 students. Science Olympiad's ever-changinging line-up of events in Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math (STEM) disciplines, exposes & energizes our students to a variety of career choices & dynamic content experiences. Our team has been in existence for 5 years. In that time, our best showing was 2nd place in the regional competition, and we went on to place 9th in the state competition. Planned Activities: Dodgen Invitational in November 2018, & Regional Competition in spring of 2018 with another showing at the state competition to follow. (We need many parent volunteers interested in helping us organize.) Meetings in Commons This club asks that you submit teacher recommendationss in early Fall. Watch for announcement via rolling announcements STUDENT COUNCIL To have a positive impact on the school climate by facilitating activities that increase school spirit.
