Overview of NYC s GI Program
Overview of NYC s GI Program $192 million is budgeted for green infrastructure in combined sewer areas through 2015. A multi-pronged approach toward widespread implementation in priority combined sewer overflow (CSO)tributary areas through: 1. Area-Wide Contracts 2. On-site Construction 3. Neighborhood Demonstration Areas 4. Green Infrastructure Grant Program 5. Adaptive Management
Overview of NYC s GI Program Phasing the Benefits Incremental benefits of GI begin to accrue at the onset and grow over time.
Overview of NYC s GI Program Spreading the Costs Multi-pronged approach for implementation necessitates both public and private investment. Estimated costs of different CSO control strategies in NYC over 20 year period.
Overview of NYC s GI Program GI Integration into CSO Program Modified 2012 Consent Order substitutes more costeffective grey and green infrastructure projects to achieve additional CSO volume reductions. Target is to manage 1 of runoff from 10% of impervious surfaces in combined sewer areas by 2030. Overview of NYC s GI Program Post-Construction Monitoring of Pilot Projects 25 pilots at 18 locations constructed during 2009-2011. 2011 and 2012 monitoring data analysis and reports completed and describes: Performance Maintenance Costs Results applied to current site selection and design processes. NYC s pilot monitoring locations in combined sewer areas of Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx.

NYCDEP s GI Grant Program Partially funded by NYSDEC EBP Settlement Fund. DEP awarded over $10 million in funding to 30 different partners since 2011. Recipients contributed $5.4 million in matching funds. Projects will prevent 15 MG of stormwater from entering the combined sewer system each year. 2013 grant recipients announced May 1, 2013. Grant Funding for GI Projects in Ohio
Grant Funds for GI Projects Factors to be Eligible for Grant Projects: Available Watershed Information (i.e. hydraulic modeling, subsurface conditions and information on the water quality in the receiving water body). Relevance of the proposed improvements in terms of impact to the watershed or immediate water body s water quality. Relevance of the proposed improvements in terms of impact to the community. Support letters from non-profit organizations, local, state, and federal organizations. Support from local government and commitment to match funds and provide long term maintenance.
