High Five Passport Program Farmers Market Season 2015 One of the main challenges of the program has been the difficulty in obtaining data... We did not require [parents] to sign up for the program, to give us personal information, or to make any sort of commitment to the program... Without any of these requirements in place, it is difficult to collect good data. Hailey Ogden, Two-Year Progress Report for Blue Cross of Idaho Event Produce tasting Number of events during market season Total participants during market season 5 253 Cooking class 4 165 Physical activity class Incentivizing walking or biking to market Passport program 5 135 N/A 450 N/A 321 1,324 Additional information 84.5% of kids liked what they tried. Tastings had the highest rate of participation. Had lowest participation rates of all events. Physical activity classes will be eliminated in the 2016 season in favor of incentivizing physical activity outside of market days. Incentives were given in the form of High Five Market Money, empowering kids to begin making their own healthy eating choices by allowing them to purchase fresh produce from vendors. In 2014 and 2015, passports were given to the parents of children to take home and bring back every market day. To increase ease of participation and reliability of data, passports will be kept on site for the 2016 season. Total contacts promoting healthy eating and active living for children in 2015, a substantial increase from 623 in 2014. The Moscow Farmers Market High Five Passport Program was started in 2013, funded by a two-year grant from Blue Cross of Idaho. Grant funding ended for High Five at the end of 2015. The program will continue to operate in 2016, but seeking further grant funding is recommended to ensure long-term viability.
