Norwalk Lions Club Spirit of Community Scholarship 2008-2009 Dear Students: The Lions Club of Norwalk, a humanitarian/non-profit service organization, is once again proud to announce the Spirit of Community scholarship. We will award several thousand dollar scholarships to Norwalk youth who are graduating high school seniors and entering college or vocational training the following school year. This award is designed for Norwalk youth to involve themselves in their community so that they may experience the self-enrichment and benefits of volunteerism. Instructions and Criteria Must be a Norwalk Resident. Must maintain a 2.50 High School G.P.A. Must be a graduating high school senior who will attend school next Fall - as an entering freshman at an accredited College or University full-time. - or entering an accredited vocational training school (minimum 9 - month program). Must have completed 10 hours of approved community service during this current school year. - Service hours must be done in Norwalk with a community agency, group, or organization. Must write a one-page essay on: Volunteerism and My Community. Must write a one-page autobiography of yourself. Share any adversities or challenges that you have overcome; describe your character. Must get two letters of recommendation. May be written by community leader, organization, or school official. For Committee scoring purposes; Please do not type or write your name on the essay paper or anywhere in its content. Simply title 1 st essay as Volunteerism and My Community, and 2 nd essay as Autobiography. Both papers must be written in college format. One-inch margins and double spaced. 12 pt. font ONLY! Failure to do so revokes or disqualifies the applicant and all monies will be forfeited and returned. Any volunteer youth program coordinated by the City of Norwalk such as: Teen Alliance Program, Norwalk Public Safety Cadet Program, All City Youth Band. (Must be a service project). Any volunteer service oriented club at school, church, or community.
