Jupiter High School Band Parent Meeting Minutes Date: February 17, 2016 Location: JHS Drama Room Meeting called to order: 7:05 pm President Susan Taylor called the meeting to order at 7:05 PM. The minutes from the January 20, 2016, Band Parent meeting were distributed previously by email. The minutes were approved on motion by Debra Wasserman and seconded by Harvey White. OFFICER/COMMITTEE REPORTS FINANCE REPORT Gina Phinney People are starting to pay their band fees. Last month, outstanding marching band fees were reduced by 9%, and outstanding concert band fees were reduced by 6%. JV Winter Guard and Winter Percussion payments are due today. Fees can be paid by credit card through the Birdies for Children fundraiser through February 24. FUNDRAISING Dine for Cash this Friday, February 19 at California Pizza Kitchen. Flyers are available on the piano. Tritan Tumblers Cynthia Carrino We will be selling these tumblers, including a custom-designed JHS Warrior Band tumbler, which is a 26 oz. tumbler with a black lid for $25. We have committed to purchase the minimum number (96) of the JHS Band tumblers. Additional tumbler choices in two sizes (26 oz. for $25 and 16 oz. for $20) are available in the catalog. These tumblers are created by the co-founder of Tervis Tumblers. This fundraiser is open to the entire band. We will receive the tumblers about 4 weeks after the fundraiser closes. There are prizes for students who sell a specific number of tumblers. The band helps underwrite the cost of the prizes. Watch your email for more detailed information about this fundraiser. Fishing Tournament Pat McIvor Pat and his friend George ran a charity fishing tournament in Islamorada two years ago. They would like to do another tournament here to benefit the band program. They have already arranged with Johnny Mangos to hold a Captains Meeting dinner and awards dinner as part of the tournament. Current plans are: May 13: Captains Meeting May 14: AM - Tournament with weigh-in at the Jib Club May 14: 6pm to 9pm - Awards Dinner NOTE: Soon after this meeting, the tournament dates were changed to May 14-15. Money will be raised through entry fees, raffle ticket sales and possibly a Calcutta. Additional help is requested of band parents to publicize the tournament and get raffle prizes (paintings, photographs, custom fishing rods, etc.). Pat is also looking into hiring a charter boat for students who would like to enter the tournament but who do not have access to a boat. At their last tournament, they donated about $3,500 with approximately 20 entrants.

It was suggested to ask Tommy Schulz if he could advertise this tournament on his weekly radio show. Debbie will give Crystal Titus contact information to Pat since Crystal is great at getting donations. At the meeting, the tournament was named the WARRIOR CLASSIC. JV WINTER GUARD Debra Wasserman The kids are doing an amazing job, and they are having a good time. Costumes were received, and students should receive their jackets soon. SFWGA CHAMPIONSHIPS We are on STAND BY with SFWGA regarding the Championships on April 2-3. As of today, they are keeping the event at Barbara Goleman HS. All agreed that we need an answer ASAP so we have enough time to plan. NOMINATING COMMITTEE A Nominating Committee is needed to vet nominees and prepare the ballot for the upcoming Board elections. By show of hands, Stephanie Kellogg, Kate Tierney and Michelle Kellogg were elected to the Nominating Committeee. BOARD NOMINATIONS The following Band Executive Board nominations were submitted prior to or at this meeting: President: Susan Taylor Co-Vice President: Debra Wasserman Co-Vice President: Needed Treasurer: Tammy Palette Asst. Treasurer: Needed Secretary: Debbie Wiley After the meeting, Wendy Anderson was nominated as Co-Vice President, and Rosalie Jablonski was nominated as Asst. Treasurer. SPRING CONCERT The Spring Concert will be Thursday, February 25. The Bake Sale is being coordinated by Candy Helms, and we will need bake sale items. Lana Wiefels is coordinating other concert volunteers. CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM = SFWGA Premire North Event It went very well. We need adults at the front concessions counter taking tickets. We did have a few adults who did not show up for their shifts. We probably need to do longer shifts for future events to make sure we have coverage. The Timer position could be done by one person to save volunteer slots. It was helpful to have student volunteers escort groups from the auditorium to the gym. It would be good to have floater students go to the different volunteer stations to ask if volunteers need anything water, etc. Instructors should know that kids in winter groups are required to volunteer at specific times. (There was a problem with one of the instructors dismissing Winter Percussion students after their retreat instead of them helping to clean up the event.) At set up, the JV and Varsity Winter Guard students didn t know what to do. We did have issues with set up in that we were not allowed to have access to the gym on Friday evening like we normally would.

MISCELLANEOUS Symphonic Band Concert MPA chaperones are still needed. Contact Debbie Wiley if you can help. Our Band Parent Executive Board elections are held at the March Band Parent meeting on March 16. Drum Corps International (DCI) is returning to South Florida on Monday, July 11, and Jupiter High School is hosting the competition. We need a liaison to help with communication between DCI and the school. Contact Mr. Larkin if you would like to volunteer or need more information. Roger Dean Stadium Spring Training Concessions: Pam Abruscati says that we have the opportunity to work a game on March 28. This would be for all adult volunteers. Contact Pam if you would like to work this game. Jupiter MS Pancake Breakfast / Silent Auction is Saturday, April 16. UPCOMING ACTIVITIES 2/19: Dine for Cash @ California Pizza Kitchen 2/24: Dress Rehearsal Spring Concert - 4pm 2/25: Spring Concert - 7pm 2/27: JV/Varsity Guard Competition @ Flanagan HS 2/27: Winter Percussion Competition @ John I Leonard HS 3/8: Wind Symphony Concert MPA @ Wellington HS 3/9: Symphonic Band Concert MPA @ Wellington HS 3/12: JV/Varsity Guard Competition @ Park Vista HS 3/12: Percussion Competition @ John I Leonard HS 3/16: March Band Parent Meeting - 7pm
