BRIGHTON & HOVE SPONSORSHIP PACK #BeMoreSnail We invite you to come out of your shell in Autumn 2018 Registered Charity No. 802145.

01 We re delighted to be working with Wild in Art for the second time to deliver another spectacular art installation throughout Brighton & Hove. In 2016 we were delighted by the great success of the Snowdogs campaign which, in addition to raising 310,000 for Martlets, also contributed a staggering 10.1m to the local economy. We re incredibly excited to exhibit another city-wide art installation, particularly as the second sculpture again resonates so wonderfully with the work we do at Martlets. Our life-changing hospice care helps people do the things they love with the time they have. In this fast-paced city it s often hard to remember to slow down and appreciate the things in life that make us smile. The strikingly painted snails across our city will be a constant reminder to take a moment to enjoy the time we have with the people we share our lives with. We can t wait to slowly saunter between each sculpture and enjoy our city s sights at a snail s pace! Imelda Glackin, CEO, Martlets Snowdogs was a wonderful initiative that we were lucky to have the opportunity to be involved in. From staff engagement to online interactions and Snowdog events, the installation gave us new and fun opportunities to engage with people of all ages from Brighton and beyond. Emma Banks Head of Corporate Communications, OneFamily

03 As the leaves turn golden in Autumn 2018, Martlets and Wild in Art will be coming out of their shells as The Snailway arrives in Brighton & Hove. Snail sculptures will be popping up throughout the city, decorated by local artists and community groups with the support of philanthropic local businesses like yours. #BeMoreSnail and take the slow road around our city. Wander wherever the urge takes you. Wonder at the unique sculptures - enjoy and share experiences with friends old and new. Giant snails have a unique connection to Brighton & Hove! The largest known land gastropod is the African Giant Snail, and the largest specimen ever recorded measured an incredible 39.3cm from snout to tail and weighed 900g! This actual snail was found by Christopher Hudson of Hove in Sierra Leone during June 1976, and was named Gee Geronimo. Martlets offer a shell-ter by the sea The snail carries its home wherever it goes. It s a comforting reminder that there s no place like home - exactly how Martlets feels to the patients and families that we help and support. The art of slow travel By placing arty snails all over the city, residents and visitors will get into the mindset of slow travel. Rather than attempting to squeeze as many sights as possible into each trip, the slow traveller takes the time to explore thoroughly and to experience the local culture properly, something The Snailway will encourage all over our city. The power of public art Public art installations always engender a special feeling for those who experience them, and our Snailspace will inspire civic pride, motivate all to explore parts of the city outside their usual neighbourhood, and showcase Brighton & Hove s wealth of artistic talent.

05 We invite your company, employees and customers to be inspired, get imaginative and celebrate the uniqueness of Brighton & Hove, by supporting our second mass participation public art event, Snailspace. Businesses, attractions, education establishments and community groups will be invited to sponsor a blank snail sculpture the canvas. Artists will be invited to submit designs that will be presented to snail sponsors. Selected artists will be commissioned to customise a snail each, creating a collection (or escargatoire ) of beautiful and striking snails. These will be displayed in the streets and public spaces of Brighton & Hove throughout Autumn 2018 for everyone in the city to enjoy. In December, the snails will gather together for a few days for a farewell event prior to heading to auction, so those who were unable to complete The Snailway or simply haven t time to do so can see them all under one roof. The farewell event also provides an opportunity for everyone to choose which snail they might like to bid for at auction! Near Christmas, the snails will take centre stage at a charity auction to raise funds for Martlets, before they snailaway to their permanent homes. June - August 2018 Snails designed and decorated by their artists. October 2017 - March 2018 Sponsors, artists and schools invited to get involved. September - November 2018 The Snailway goes live! Snails displayed across Brighton & Hove. May 2018 Preview of proposed snail designs for selection by sponsors. December 2018 Snails auctioned to raise money for Martlets.

07 Presented in partnership with Wild in Art, Snowdogs by the Sea was the city s largest ever public art event, and the single biggest fundraiser Martlets has ever delivered. Supported by businesses from across the city, the project won the hearts and minds of everyone in Brighton & Hove and beyond. Snowdogs by the Sea was only made possible thanks to the amazing support of the corporate community and public sector organisations whose generous funding enabled it to be a pawsome success. The result was a 10-week long trail of 44 giant Snowdogs created by local and national artists and 22 Snowpups, designed and decorated by school children from across the city. The trail covered 18 miles around the city, with Snowdogs scattered far and wide! Hundreds of thousands of families, friends, schools, collegues and individuals across several generations travelled into the city to engage with the adorable sculptures.

We were delighted to be sponsors of Snowdogs as it gave visitors a new reason to come to the city outside of the main summer season. There was a palpable Snowdog effect as city dwellers and visitors struck up conversations as they made their way around the trail. It was a great way to get people to explore different areas of Brighton & Hove and of course it had a significant economic impact too. We are excited about the prospect of another event in Autumn 2018 and the promotional opportunity it presents for us as a city. Howard Barden, Head of Tourism, VisitBrighton Sponsoring Lola, our Snowdog helped to raise the profile of our 2016 Christmas show, Sunny Afternoon. She gave us a continuous presence on New Road promoting the show with something different from our usual front of house displays. We also benefited from the press coverage and social media engagement, which all contributed to an extremely successful show. It was also great to be involved in this lovely city-wide initiative and to support Martlets. John Baldock, General Manager, Theatre Royal Brighton We never really had the intention of owning our Snowdog Pebbles; but the more it went on and the more we saw feedback on social media, we thought he couldn t go anywhere else, he had to be ours. Maria Valentine, YellowFish Director 08
