Polar Bear Ursus maritimus Polar bears put Olympic swimmers to shame. They cut through the ocean at 6 mph. Compare that to Olympic swimmers who clock in at 4.5 mph. The Zoo s flamboyant superintendent threatened to turn all the animals loose if the water was not turned back on. The water was restored and the animals remained in their exhibits.
