From Jeramy Happy May! I have been on the job for 4 months now, and as far as I can tell things couldn t have gone much better! We have been working diligently to establish and provide a top notch 4-H year. The livestock judging team is off and running and proves to get better with every competition. We had a successful leader training, MQA and District Retreat. We started a producer email blast that is gaining more members all the time, and we are gaining ground on the fair working with the Junior Livestock Committee, the Open Class Committee and the Fair Board. I want to encourage all of you to check out the caps and conferences being provided at the local, district and state levels. These are great opportunities to learn new skills, meet new friends, and enhance your 4-H experience. Check out the list of upcoming events and please be aware of deadlines. This is the time of the year where I will be out of the office more frequently. Events like AGFEST, regional meetings, state conference, and camps are going to take some time. Thank goodness we have Karen here to answer questions and make the office run smoothly. If you need to get in touch with me, she can get you in touch. Also, due to Kaye Kasza s deserved retirement, I will be in charge of the 4-H programming and fair for Bent County. I will be on the go all summer but will do my best to be available. With all that said, have a great last month of the school year and we hope to see you throughout the summer and not just at the fair! Congratulations Molly! Molly Stolzenberger was recently elected to serve as Treasurer for the 2017-2018 District VI 4-H Senate. Thank you Molly for representing Kiowa County in such a great way! Caballeros & Clovers 4-H Camp! Take the challenge! 4-H members 8-12 yrs old can take part in Food Preservation, Team Building, Campfire Cooking, Mapping, First Aid and more! June 14-15 at the Colorado State Fairgrounds, cost is $25 and includes meals, workshop materials and a t-shirt. Registration is now open, deadline is May 19th, and camp is limited to the first 100 youth to sign up. Youth wishing to apply as a counselor may contact the Extension Office. State Fair Exhibit Requirements The 2017 Colorado State Fair Exhibit Requirements have been updated. You may find them at : http://www.colorado4h.org/project_resources/ StateFairExhibitReq.pdf Please be sure to refer to the exhibit requirements when you are planning your project. These requirements will be used in judging at both county and state fairs. Ryan Koeller & Lakota Roberson Congratulations to our two graduation 4-H Seniors, Ryan Koeller and Lakota Roberson! Both Ryan and Lakota applied for Ellicott 4-H Memorial Scholarship and have been awarded a $250 amount to be applied to their college tuition and costs. We are incredibly proud of you both, and we will miss you next year!

Are You New to 4-H? We hope that you will find 4-H to be an enjoyable and educational experience for the whole family. The goal her at the Extension Office is to make 4-H as user friendly as possible! Here are some ways that you as parents can ease the stress that comes to most families during their initial years. (yes, we realize that the first year or two can be rather intimidating!) 1. Read your newsletter - perhaps our main method of communications. Newsletters should be received by the 10th of each month. We are currently emailing our newsletters, but if you have difficulty accessing it this way let us know and we can mail it to you. 2. Check out our Facebook and Website pages - we are trying hard to get our website current and ahead of the curve, and our Facebook page has already become the place to go for pictures and up-to -date information. 3. Understand your Project Requirements - please check out the State 4-H website at http:// w w w. c o l o r a d o 4 h. o r g / p r o j e c t _ r e s o u r c e s / StateFairExhibitReq.pdf These requirements will be used in judging at both county and state fairs. 4. Start Early - please do not wait until two weeks before Exhibit Day to think about your projects. Good planning becomes a lifelong habit. Creative Cooks & Cake Decorators! New Southeast Area Website The Southeast Area Extension has a new website. Check out http://sea.extension.colostate.edu/ for Southeast Area related information. 4H Online Email Blasts From time to time the State office will be sending emails directly to the 4-H members. It is the easiest and most effective way to communicate important State events and requirements. We know that not everyone particularly enjoys the extra emails and there have been requests to be unsubscribed. It is important to know that if you do that, you would not receive any re-enrollment emails or information the County office sends directly to you. Please do not unsubscribe. State Fair Exhibit Requirements The 2017 State Fair Exhibit Requirements have been updated. You can find them at http://www.colorado4h.org/project_resources/ StateFairExhibitReq.pdf. Judging is based on creativity, taste, and visual appeal, among other factors. Complete contest requirements can be found at www.colorado4h.org. We hope to see you all there!
