TIS VIEWBOOK OFFERS YOU GREAT DIGITAL EXPERIENCES USING TE LAYAR APP Military Academy DOWNLOAD TE FREE APP, FIND TIS SYMBOL AND SCAN TE IMAGE MASSANUTTEN MILITARY ACADEMY (MMA) was founded in 1899 to produce well-rounded citizen leaders. While outstanding military (JROTC) instruction has been a hallmark, the Cadet Corps lifestyle has always focused first and foremost on academic achievement and educating for civilian leadership. Today s cadets continue those proud traditions. Massanutten Military Academy accepts cadets in grades 7 through 12, and one year of postgraduate classes. New cadets enroll at each grade level annually. In addition to superior athletics, MMA offers interscholastic sports and arts programs. Our coeducational campus provides small class sizes to address each cadet s individual learning styles and needs. MMA s goal is to produce confident, capable, productive citizens who are prepared for leadership and service. For most MMA grads, college is their next educational goal. The Academy s forty-acre campus is a landmark in the charming town of Woodstock, in Virginia s majestic Shenandoah Valley. MMA is just a ninety-minute drive west of Washington, D.C. MMA COOSES TO REMAIN A SMALL SCOOL WIT A BIG MISSION Cadets find opportunities for leadership they would not experience at larger schools. Teachers, coaches, counselors, mentors, and advisors build supportive relationships with cadets throughout campus life. Diversity is an asset, as cadets come from numerous U.S. states and foreign countries. All cadets share in daily duties and details, and are supervised by adult advisors. MMA cadets get the best of both worlds: single-sex structure in dorms and companies, with coeducational interaction in classrooms and campus life. FULLY ACCREDITED INDEPENDENT SCOOL PROGRAMS Massanutten Military Academy is accredited by the Virginia Association of Independent Schools (VAIS) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). MMA is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), The Association of Boarding Schools (TABS), and Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the United States (AMCSUS). CSM SUZANNE D RUBENSTEIN, (RET) USAR PARSIPPANY, NEW JERSEY Command Sergeant Major Rubenstein came to MMA after serving for 21 years in the United States Army Reserves. As a Mentor, Teacher, and JROTC Instuctor, CSM Rubenstein has seen young men and women transform into confident leaders. Whether you intend to join military service or not, Massanutten Military Academy is a place where solid educational programs and strong leadership and character development build futures. MILITARY ACADEMY Overview

Academics MMA S CURRICULUM helps cadets improve their study skills as they prepare for college. Courses are offered in history, mathematics, sciences, literature, composition, foreign languages, studio art, and music. JROTC classes prepare cadets for civic duty and leadership, not for service in the armed forces. STEM SCIENCE. TECNOLOGY. ENGINEERING. MAT. Massanutten is committed to the future as a STEM school. Project Lead the Way (PLTW) is a nationally recognized STEM program that helps middle and high school students identify their interests and plan an educational path in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Students participating in this program may enjoy enrollment and scholarship preferences at universities and colleges partnered with PLTW. STEM coursework includes: Robotics Flight and Space Biomedical Engineering Computer Science ADVANCED STUDIES AND TE ARTS ONOR SOCIETY Advanced Placement (AP) courses: U.S. istory, Government, Calculus (AB/BC), Physics, and English Literature and Language College credit in advanced courses through dual enrollment with Lord Fairfax College onors Course credit upon completion of additional requirements Foreign Language resources: Rosetta Stone supplemental programs in French, Spanish, German, Russian, Arabic, Japanese, Korean, and Italian Band, Chorus, Theatre, Speech and Debate programs Music and Arts Scholarships available to students with proven talents and interests Studio Arts classes CADET MAJOR WEIOUQING CEN, 15 GUIYANG, GUIZOU PROVINCE, CINA Cadet Chen values MMA s small class size, liberal arts education, and STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) curriculum in his pursuit of academic excellence. Chen has been an onors Student every year he has attended MMA. Academics KEYS TO CLASSROOM SUCCESS: Talented, devoted, supportive teachers Small classes averaging 10 cadets per section Individually tailored course roadmaps and study plans Continuously upgraded computer resources and support School-wide diagnostic testing twice a year Supervised evening study and Learning Support Program Counseling in college selection/application processes SAT, ACT, and Advanced Placement testing on campus Each cadet has a Faculty Advisor throughout their years at MMA Extra instruction and tutoring is offered, as needed ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

Athletics PYSICAL FITNESS is vital to cadet life. Regular exercise promotes overall wellness and emotional health. MMA cadet-athletes enjoy more participation opportunities than they would at much larger schools. Throughout the school year, cadets must participate in fitness activities or on interscholastic sports teams. Fitness instructors teach cadets to use weight room and exercise equipment properly and effectively. Cadetathletes participating in interscholastic sports programs experience teamwork and sportsmanship, the demands of preparation and training, and the rewards of persevering in adversity. COACING TO COMPETE WIT CLASS The Academy s coaches are dedicated to helping young people develop not just their athletic abilities, but their character and positive attitudes as well. Many MMA coaches have competed or coached at collegiate and professional levels. They enjoy the challenges of nurturing and supporting cadets on and off the playing field. MMA Colonels teams train to be champions and to compete, always, with class. INTERSCOLASTIC SPORTS Football Basketball Baseball Volleyball Wrestling Soccer Tennis Raiders (JROTC) Rifle Team Softball Cheerleading Cross-country Lacrosse Swimming Track and Field MMA ATLETICS FACILITIES Field and stadium for football, soccer, and lacrosse 440-yard track Gymnasium (basketball, volleyball) Three tennis courts Baseball and softball diamonds On-campus cross-country course Well-equipped weight rooms with aerobics equipment Raiders obstacle course and circuit training areas Outdoor basketball courts CADET CAPTAIN JOSUA OLT 15 SYRACUSE, NEW YORK Cadet olt has experienced the value of MMA s athletics programs from both the sports and leadership development aspects. A three-sport athlete, olt believes MMA s small community has provided more opportunities for him than at the larger public school he previously attended. Cadet olt is the captain of the MMA Colonels football team. ATLETICS PROGRAMS Athletics

Cadet Life AT MMA, WE TEAC our cadets teamwork, a sense of belonging, leadership, self-discipline, and attention to detail. These goals and ideals drive the MMA experience in company formations, on sports teams, in musical performing groups, and throughout every facet of school life. Cadets are held to high standards of behavior. They learn to work together, perform well as a unit, and hold each other accountable for their actions. The result is a shared pride, respect, self-confidence, and most of all, lasting loyalty and friendship. The Corps is organized as a battalion with three companies. The battalion staff, respective company commanders, and junior officers are charged with leading fellow cadets in a professional, respectful manner. Cadets learn, and become part of, MMA traditions. Boys and girls dorms are housed in separate buildings on the campus. Same-sex staff members are on duty at all times to ensure cadet safety and proper behavior. Life WEEKEND ACTIVITIES The Director of Activities and Community Service plans and directs wide-ranging activities on and off campus, particularly on weekends, for cadets not going home on leave. Cadets in good standing may walk less than a half-mile to downtown Woodstock s restaurants, department stores, or movie theater. OFF-CAMPUS ACTIVITIES INCLUDE: Paintball and laser tag Whitewater rafting Canoeing Theme/water parks iking and camping Rappelling istorical tours and reenactment events College and professional sports events Golf or skiing at Bryce Resort ON-CAMPUS ACTIVITIES INCLUDE: The ayes Activities Center to relax with friends, buy snacks, watch TV, or play pool, foosball, or Wii Gym basketball courts and weight room Inter-company athletic competitions Library and computer labs ALUMNI CONNECTIONS Cadets meet MMA graduates through alumnisponsored socials, picnics, and tours of the Alumni Museum. At omecoming and Founders Day, cadets and their parents meet alumni as they return to Massanutten for class reunions. CADET CAPTAIN COURTNEY ALDRIC, 15 DAYTONA BEAC, FLORIDA During her five years at MMA, Cadet Aldrich has adopted her cadet peers and MMA staff as her family. She has enjoyed the fun and developmental opportunities of MMA s dorm life, structure, and extra-curricular activities available to all cadets in good standing. CADET Cadet LifeCadet LIFE

Leadership Development SCOOL-WIDE ASSEMBLIES At least once a week, all cadets and employees gather in Caskey Auditorium with the ead of School to talk about what matters most issues of character, community, and concern for others. Cadets know they can speak to the ead of School, their advisors, counselors, teachers, or military staff leaders about whatever is on their minds and hearts. They learn to care about what is right, not just follow orders. They learn to lead with respect. And they sing the Alma Mater, together. CADET MASTER SERGEANT LANCE PILLIPS, 16 REPUBLIC OF SUDAN, AFRICA Leadership Development TE ESSENCE OF TE CADET EXPERIENCE is character development and leadership training. The Academy s military-styled structure builds confidence, discipline, teamwork, and integrity. Cadets earn a sense of belonging. They live out the school s motto: Non Nobis Solum, Not for Ourselves Alone. At the heart of MMA s education in ethics is our onor Code: A cadet will not lie, cheat or steal, nor tolerate those who do. Cadets commit to helping each other act honorably. The Cadet onor Council consists of leaders, elected by their classmates, who meet regularly to address concerns about significant misconduct and to offer counseling and support for cadets struggling with ethical issues and patterns of dishonesty. JROTC PROGRAM The mission of Army Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) is not to train soldiers, but to teach and motivate young people to be good citizens and leaders. Cadets are under no obligation to enter the military. Instruction focuses on developing cadets appreciation for ethical values, integrity, and responsibility. MMA s JROTC Program consistently earns the highest designation as an onor Unit with Distinction, which allows MMA to nominate qualified candidates for appointments to the U.S. service academies. JROTC instructors supervise the Cadet Corps functions as a military unit, training for parades and drill competitions, and fulfillment of ceremonies and honors. One of the Academy s most popular and successful programs is the Raider Team, which competes nationally with other JROTC units. Massanutten Military Academy develops the character and inherent leadership in all of our cadets. We do not change cadets into something they are not; we refine the perfection and leadership capabilities that lie in each of them. Cadet Phillips is a model of quiet leadership. Phillips appreciates the opportunities he has been given at MMA to become the man and leader into which he has developed. CARACTER LEADERSIP

Massanutten Military Academy s mission is to prepare cadets for their success by delivering structure and a superior educational experience. Our unique approach involves an environment built on collaboration, critical thinking, and innovation.
