Scotland School for Veterans Children Historical Marker Working with the SSCV Alumni Association, DMVA is preparing an application to the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission for approval of a state historical marker on Scotland Road near the site of the campus. Senator Alloway and Rep. Kauffman, Greene Township and the Franklin County Historical Society have endorsed the historical marker. DMVA requests the SVC vote to endorse the erection of an historical marker near SSVC. As of 1 Oct 12

SSVC Historical Marker SSVC has an illustrious history. Established in 1895 to consolidate several residential schools for Civil War orphans. Scotland School fulfilled its mission to provide a safe, healthy and structured learning environment for more than 10,000 boys and girls. Scotland School s graduates were instilled with a sense of patriotism that led many to pursue military service and become honored veterans. When it closed in 2009 after 114 years in operation, it was the last school of its kind in the United States. The SSVC campus is in process of being sold to Winebrenner Theological Seminary. As of 1 Oct 12

SSVH Historical Marker Applications are due to the PHMC by the end of November. The Alumni Association would like to dedicate the marker in June 2013 if approved by the PHMC. Endorsement of the historical marker by SVC and Pennsylvania veterans organizations will be very helpful. As of 1 Oct 12
