R9 IEEE Foundation Committee Eng. Ruben Barrera-Michel R9 FC Chair Reunión Regional / Regional Meeting 2013, March 6 9

What is the IEEE Foundation Committee?

IEEE Foundation Committee The activities in Regions 8 to 10 need to be organized and implemented, taking advantage of the IEEE structure in the countries covered by such regions. As the Foundation President says, the continuing increase in membership outside of the US requires that we expand our breath of activities. To implement Foundation activities in regions 8 to 10, in association with local sections and the industry, in order to foster the accomplishment of Foundation mission worldwide, to increment fundraisings, grants and projects, to educate local volunteer leaders in Foundation activities.

IEEE Foundation Committee Strategy To meet this challenge, it is suggested the IEEE Foundation to establish, in 2008, a pilot project in one of the regions (8, 9 and 10), in order to check results and the viability to apply them in other regions.

Premises The action plans are supposed to replicate main Foundation activities in the sections involved, such as fundraising, funding projects and others suggested activities, in the scope of the Foundation. Priority must be given to the education of local section volunteers in Foundation activities, such as to raise local funds, review local projects/grants and followup the projects

Focus Areas EDUCATION: Education is the cornerstone of technological advancement. The IEEE Foundation supports projects that expand and enhance engineering, science and technology education opportunities for students of all ages through mid-career professionals to positively impact workforce development and involvement in IEEE.

Focus Areas HISTORY OF TECHNOLOGY: Achieving the promise technology holds for tomorrow requires an understanding of the role it plays in our lives today and how it changed "yesterday". The IEEE Foundation supports projects that increase awareness of the impact and influence of early technology on the present and future among the general public. Projects primarily aimed at preserving or studying the history of technology must include plans to disseminate the results.

Focus Areas APPLYING TECHNOLOGY FOR HUMANITARIAN CAUSES: Progress to a better tomorrow is dependent upon the investment of time, talent, knowledge and resources to improve the human condition. Within its humanitarian focus area, the IEEE Foundation supports projects that implement or disseminate replicable, sustainable, technology-based solutions for humanitarian issues in underserved and underprivileged areas.
