March 14, 2012 Dear St. Nicholas Academy Community, The PTO will meet this evening in the cafeteria at 7:00 P.M. Please join us if you can. Our students in grades 3-8 had the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation today. Thanks to our Pastors for being present today to assist us in our journey toward Easter. Thanks to ALL who participated in our recent Sock collection for victims of the recent tornado. SNA donated 1415 pairs of socks to our brothers and sisters in need. The 1 st and 2 nd grade will be collecting gently used children s books after the Easter break. These books will be sent to Appalachia and distributed at a church food bank. They are appreciative of any books that can be given to families who have little if any means of purchasing them for their children. We will begin collecting after Easter and other reminders will be sent home. Thanks to all who have sent in registration forms for the upcoming year. If you have not sent them in please do so ASAP. We are nearing the point when critical staffing decisions have to be made. Our Lady of the Sacred Heart will have a Fish Fry this Friday March 16 th in the Parish Activity Center. WGRR will be here broadcasting live and collecting for the St. Vincent DePaul Society to assist the recent tornado victims. There is a need for additional desserts. If you can help please contact Mary Beth Armstrong at drarmstrong@fuse.net or Liza Durbin at lizadurbin@fuse.net. The St. John s Dads Club will have a Las Vegas Night this Saturday March 17 th from 7:00 P.M.-Midnight in the St. John Cafeteria. Entrance is $10.00 at the door. A reminder that there will be NO CLASSES on Monday March 19 th. I am very sorry for the inconvenience this will cause our working parents. We will be fixing several areas addressed in the recent safety audit from our insurance company. Another rather large project was already scheduled for the Easter recess so that is why the work is being done on the 19 th. The Teacher Gifts program and list can be found on the Website. Also a flyer about a parent talk concerning chastity is attached today. Notes of encouragement and support were attached to the packages. In the words of Mother Theresa, We cannot all do great things, but we can do small things with great love. Celebrate Community Heroes The fourth grade recently honored their community heroes with a special Mass and breakfast. This event served as a follow up to the hand made gift baskets the class assembled for local police, firefighters, and bus drivers at Christmas time. I thought it was cool when the firefighters and police came in their uniforms to Mass. The breakfast was fun because we got to eat with the people that protect us. We made placemats and valentines to use while they were eating. I would love to do it again! said student Anthony Rishforth. Honor Flight The eighth grade is holding an Easter egg hunt to raise funds to fly a WWII veteran on a US Honor Flight to the WWII Monument in Washington DC to show gratitude for their service to our country. The eighth grade is studying US history and this helps bring the lessons to life. The GIFTS Program: Gift Items For Teachers & Students, was created to support our school. Many of our parents and parishioners WANT to help; they just aren t sure HOW to help. Teachers have created wish lists of items to enhance their curriculum. View our website for a detailed list of items needed, www.stnacademy.org. Monetary donations can be sent to school marked GIFTS program or placed in collection baskets at Mass. A Seussarific Day To celebrate Dr. Seuss 108th birthday, eighth graders read their favorite Dr. Seuss books to their kindergarten buddies. Oh the places you ll go with reading! Thank You for your ongoing support of St. Nicholas Academy. Our children and parents appreciate your contribution!
