EAGLE NEWS October 16, 2015 NOTES FROM THE PRINCIPAL West Deptford Homecoming Update: West Deptford Homecoming Dance is scheduled for Saturday, October 31, 2015 from 6:30pm 10:30pm. Tickets are on sale beginning October 14th October 27 th. Tickets will be sold during lunch periods and in the activities office. Cost is $15.00 per person. All students need to complete a STUDENT FORM found in the cafeteria and on the WDHS website. PTO MESSAGE: In the past, we have always accepted food donations for this event. In lieu of food donations this year we are requesting a $5 donation or if you would still prefer to make a food donation, you can sign up via the "Sign Up Genius" link below to do so. It is our hope that this will be easier for families and for us to keep track of which food to order or to be delivered. Any donations will be accepted and much appreciated. We will accept cash or check (checks made out to West Deptford PTO). Donations can be sent into the High School Main Office in an envelope addressed to the PTO. Thank you in advance for all that you do to make our school great!! GRADUATION NEWS: EAGLE NOTES Dr. Gismondi Please use the below link to complete your child s DIPLOMA FORM requirement. This will allow us to collate all of the seniors names first, middle, last in a fashion that will expedite the ordering of diplomas for graduation. Please complete no later than Friday, October 16th. In this link, you must also indicate your child s height and weight for their cap and gown measurements. As indicated in Ms. Saia s letter home to parents, each child must pay a $20 fee for their cap & gown. You may drop this off in cash or with a check made payable to JOSTENS to the High School Main Office at your earliest convenience. Numerous college scholarship opportunities are available! Simply log into your Naviance Account, click on Colleges, then Scholarship List for more information. This list is updated frequently so be sure to check back often! You can also use the Scholarship Search link to access many more opportunities! 2. For those seniors applying to 4 year colleges, please be mindful of upcoming application deadlines and be sure to send your SAT/ACT scores directly from the testing agencies. In addition, please remember to update your application status and request that a transcript be sent through your Naviance account.

3. Also, seniors should check with the teachers whom they asked for letters of rec to make sure that the letters are uploaded prior to their application due date. Students are reminded to give teachers at least two weeks notice. 4. RCGC will be here October 27th to discuss the community college option and application process. All students who have indicated an interest in RCGC will receive passes to attend. Juniors and Seniors: 1. If you are interested in meeting one on one with an academic advisor from RCGC to discuss your future educational goals and plans, simply sign up in the Guidance Office. A RCGC rep will be here one day a month for this purpose. 2. If you have not already done so, please sign up for Guidance text reminders. Seniors should text @12guide to 81010. Juniors should text @11guide to 81010. Lady Eagles Tennis News: Congratulations to the WDHS Girls Tennis team for a 5 0 win over Gateway on Senior Night, under the lights at Atkinson Park. The girls earned a record of 17 2 on the year, and earned the #2 seed in the South Jersey Group II playoffs, defeating Delran, Pemberton, and Delsea before falling in the finals. Their success is a testament to their hard work and determination. Congratulations, ladies! NEWS FROM THE ATTENDANCE OFFICE: The 2015 2016 West Deptford High School Attendance Staff Team serves our students, faculty, administration, support staff and school community in a variety of ways. Led by Secretary Debbie Beers (featured central) and staff aide Carol Bell (to Debbie s right) they monitor and record attendance and process daily activities involving our students. The aides from far left, Jen Czech, Pat Baud and Dawn Kerby and (far right) Michele Wilson and Barb Tighe are responsible for monitoring our hallways with daily interactions with students. They also assist teachers and support staff in a variety of planned and ongoing daily operations. Mr. Cammarota along with our entire staff thanks them collectively for their diligence and efforts on behalf of our WDHS students and staff. Lock Information: WDHS students must have a West Deptford District issued lock on their hall and PE locker. For purposes of security, next week the Attendance Office will begin removing non issued school locks. In addition, please make sure students LOCK up their personal items and never leave them unattended. SPORTS UPDATE: The NJSIAA has identified championship dates that conflict with SAT dates. If you believe there is a chance that one of your student athletes could experience this conflict please share the information with them. ANGLERS CLUB: Anglers Club will be taking a trip to Wharton State Forest on Sunday, October 25 th to kayak/fish on the Mullica River. See Mr. Burr or Mr. Campbell ASAP if interested. KEY CLUB NEWS: On Sunday, October 11 th, twenty two members of the West Deptford High School Key Club attended the NJ District Fall Rally at Six Flag Great Adventure. Members gathered with 3,000 Key Clubbers from around the state to kick off the year of service and learn about all the ways that they can serve their homes, schools, and communities. On Thursday, October 15 th, members of the WDHS Key Club volunteered at Brightview Assisted Living. Some students helped residents with their exercise program, while others played games with the patients in the Alzheimer's and dementia unit. Students distributed handmade Halloween cards to residents and played BINGO. The following students participated: Nick Paterna, Woo Lee, Hunter Marple, Anthony Dockery, Alexia Benson, Kelly VanFossen, Jamie Cesaro, Vincent Tate, Juliana Stauffer, Olivia DiSimone, Micaela Wilner, Walter Reeve, Kevin Reeve, Avery Bailey, Nicole Fallon, Allison Churchill, Matthew Holcombe, Camryn Arseneau, Grace Arseneau, Robin Hill, Jason Minnite, and Samantha Steward. On Wednesday October 28th, Key Club members will make PB&J sandwiches for the clients of Cathedral Kitchen. Donations of peanut butter and jelly are needed. The Key Club is still collecting full and travel size toiletries for the homeless. DECA INFORMATION: We are in need of business professionals for New Jersey DECA s Southern Blue Regional Competition on Wednesday, January 6th. Each year, the members of the various High School Business Education Programs across the state of New Jersey participate in a Regional DECA competition. DECA provides an opportunity for students to compete in a variety of business fields. The areas of competition include, but are not limited to: Sports and Entertainment Marketing, Food Services, Fashion Merchandising and Financial Services. In order to offer this unique opportunity to

our students, we are in need of business professionals who would be willing to share their expertise as judges. This year, the Regional Competition will be held at the Crowne Plaza in Cherry Hill on January 6 from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM. If you have never had the experience of serving as a judge for one of our conferences, you will be instructed upon arrival of your specific directions. In short, you will be listening to students present their Marketing ideas on various business situations, and then you will be asked to score the students out of 100 points.
