Commandants Corner By: James L Vance Commandant Wow St. Patrick s Day party is over what a good time was had by all. I want to thank all those that worked so hard to make the party a big success. A special thanks to the Irish Dancers. They were sensational, the little kids were a big hit. The young men were world class and have competed at world. The food was good and there was plenty of it. The music was good, and great to dance to. There was many comments about what a great place the Detachment is to have such a party. I want to thank the ladies of the Auxiliary who did the decorating. The people of Grace United Church of Christ made their parking lot available to us which was a big help and we want to thank them. It was a great pleasure to me to see the house packed and everyone having a good time. They recently lost their home and all contents by fire. A couple of our Marines were there to present a check for $2,000.00 that was Marines helping a Marine by living out our motto. Speaking of good works, our food pantry was blessed with not only our $100 in from Detachment 183 but a couple other Marines in our Detachment, Bill Reinhart, Hal Holmes, Jerry Peters, and myself, came up with an additional $150.00 to purchase provisions for the poor. Please remember to bring a can or two to our March meeting. We have sick and hurt among us. Bill Frazier (sick), Dick Tisell and Dave Winkler (kidney or gallstones), Jim Vance, Charlie Oldani, Bob Neubert and myself dealing with eyesight issues.

4 Wishing you all a Happy St. Patricks s Day! Erin Go Bragh! Semper Fi, Norb Butz Chaplain An Associate s View By: Larry Idoux As I write this we are 12 days from the 1 st day of Spring. Is anyone looking forward to spring and tired of winter? I guess that is a dumb question. At least those of us who still cut our own grass will not have to cut it for a while longer. It has been a long cold winter but the Cardinals are in Florida for spring training so spring can t be that far away for those who live in St. Louis. Speaking of dates, don t forget that the Detachment s 50 th anniversary is April 26 th. I am not sure what is being planned to celebrate but I am going to watch the Scoop for details regarding any celebrations. Think spring and warm sunny days Marines. Till next time, Semper Fi, Larry Idoux In my opinion it was great having a calendar of the Detachment s events for the coming year in last month s Scoop. I know my significant other- Nancy likes to plan ahead and mark activities down in her calendar. If you haven t done so, perhaps you can show the February Scoop to your significant other if the calendar so the dates of Detachment activities will be on your calendar. Auxiliary Report By: Carole Lyston President The Auxiliary had a March Meeting, our first meeting since November! We had a good turn out because it was a warm Spring like night, no snow problems and no health problems. One member Sharon Smith, she had spent the month of

5 December in the hospital, was at our meeting. Two new ladies joined our Auxiliary; the mother, Gail Dillard, and her daughter, Jeanne Kiefer. Gail s husband, Dave, recently joined the detachment. We also had a visitor from Pvt. George Phillips Auxiliary, she is considering joining our Auxiliary. Our ladies brought many nice items for the Chocolate Basket to the raffle at the St. Pat s Party. We had enough items to make 3 baskets! We had a really Big Basket donated with lots of chocolate goodies in it, our member Gladys Cunningham got that donated basket for the party. So 4 really nice Chocolate Baskets were raffled at the St. Pat s Party. The ladies decorated the tables, for the St. Pat s Party, looked like a fun time to be had just walking into the room. The Irish dancers, as usual, were terrific dancers and fun to watch. The dance band, Charlie Mann Duo played great music to dance to. It was a really fun evening. Looking forward to another fun time on March 29 th, our Trivia Night. We have some very nice prizes collected for the event. So join us for some good laughs while playing the games and if you are lucky you may win a really nice prize. Also, the ladies are bringing a variety of cakes for free serving, a good reason to come, just for the deserts. The detachment meal for their March 25 th meeting will be Ham Steak s with pineapple glaze, Sweet Potato balls, Green Bean casserole, tossed salad, we will serve ice cream and you will be able to put various toppings on your ice cream and enjoy homemade cookies. The next Auxiliary meeting will be April 9 th at 7pm in our room upstairs on the second floor. We will initiate our two new members and vote on the new slate of officers for the next year. We invite any ladies that want to visit us for a short meeting and a fun time afterwards visiting. Carole Lyston President
