VFW POST 10262 Post meeting minutes 11 May 2015 A joint meeting was held prior to the start of the meeting. Commander Stoflet presented Debbie Manthey a Meritorious and Distinguished Service Award for her support of our Post. Adjutant Strasser presented the Bert Platta $ 500.00 Scholarship to Zachary Mancl and Mike Helgert $500.00 Golf Scholarship to Sarah Thimmesch.. Meeting was called to order by: Our Commander, Comrade Stoflet at 19:12 hrs. Opening Prayer - was read by Chaplain Raschka. Charter Draped for: Comrade Archie Pendergast Pledge of Allegiance -- Was recited by all. Guests State Service Officer and District #7 Commander and Post member Comrade John Schultz. RECITATION OF Section 230102 of the Congressional Charter. Was recited by all. Roll call of Officers Present 10 Excused 0 Absent 3 Members Present 13 26 VFW Members present Membership Statistics, Applications, Transfers and Swearing In Of New Members Commander Stoflet reported that Post 10262 status was: 201 of 207, 97.10%, District 7: 95%, Wisconsin 95%, National 95 %. Applications: None New member Robert Kitowski & Glenn Aavang were sworn in by Commander Stoflet. Submissions of Meeting Minutes of previous month; Minutes were accepted as written. Quartermaster Report Quartermaster Matthees discussed the Profit & Loss and Balance sheets. Explained the new format of comparing 2015 to 2014. Also mentioned and explained moving funds to the Canteen Reserve Account. Money was also put into the building fund that came from a donation of $1000.00. We do have money for post improvements but do not have any current plans in the books. Motion to Accept; Motion to accept the minutes by Comrade Mockler and seconded by Comrade Jay. Motion carried. SERVICE OFFICER REPORT. Comrade Mockler mentioned that some information was received from Vietnam Veterans that will be passed on to Comrades Schultz for their certificates. It was reported that Comrade Krueger has Prostate Cancer and will have his Prostate removed today, May 11 th Comrade Larsen just had a total knee replacement. Comrade Schultz mentioned that a regular monetary post supporter, William J Cable and a nonveteran, recently passed. Committee Reports House Committee; Comrade Gauthier reported that we need to have members sign up for weekly grass cutting. Thanks to Jim Borski for his work installing a Small Electric Water Heater in the Ladies Restroom. Should save running off a lot of water just getting to the hot stream. Suggestion box note; The paneling on the cooler door does not match. It is being worked on. A sign will be posted at the North End of the Fire lane stating No Trucks Beyond this point intended to keep the Garbage Truck from continuously rutting up the granite parking area. The painter will be contacted soon to repaint the new exterior siding that does not match the rest of the building. A bartender meeting will be held on Monday, June 1 st at 6 pm. Bring any issues/suggestions forward to the House Committee or put them in the suggestion box. The floor cleaning issue was discussed. The Commander will contact B 1/120 th to solicit some help. The date set up is May 30 th for the front and June 6 th for the dining room. Starting time is 8 am. The PA replacement System has been looked into. Comrade Gauthier has one estimate. Looked at getting one hand held mic and one clip-on mic. Also looked at several different music connection options so music could be played. The complete package is $ 2200.00. Motion was made by Comrade Jay to purchase the complete package for $2200.00. Was seconded by Comrade Schultz. Comrade Al Tessmann said he would like to obtain another estimate from another business. The original motion was amended to state that we would look at a 2 nd option/better estimate if it came in. If not, the original motion would stand. The motion passed. If the system is purchased, it could be installed before the next meeting. Rifle Squad & Adjutant: Comrade Strasser reported both Adj. and Rifle Squad news. Comrade Strasser thanked the Breakfast Crew for their season of work and credited Debbie Manthey for her constant PR/Marketing skills support. The last breakfast served 171 guests and we credit Debbie for our success. Thanked the Rifle Squad members who helped out with the Archie Pendergast Funeral. Asked for help for the Lauris Mills funeral on Wednesday, the 13 th at Linwood Cemetery. Comrade Strasser mentioned the two flag events coming up on the 22 nd of May. 11:00 hrs. at Harmony Homes, four (4) VFW members, Posting and Retiring the Colors. At 14:00 hrs. at Whispering Pines, full Rifle Squad and Colors, where we will conduct two Flag Ceremonies, one at the Lodge and one at Whispering Pines. On Memorial Day, May 25 th. The bus is laid-on for the event. We should arrive at the post about 07:00 hrs. and get loaded on the bus by 7;30 am. This is both a VFW & Legion and Auxiliary Event. Cemetery Flags were discussed and Jr. Vice Commander Al Tessmann is the POC for the activity. Suggest they be posted the week of the 17 th of May. Portage County VSO can provide the lists of markers and any additional flags needed. There are boxes of flags in the Rifle Squad storage area for use. Comrade Strasser mentioned the June 14 th Flag Day VFW/DAR Flag Retirement Ceremony. Scheduled at 11:00 hrs. at the Korean War Memorial. Also, at 16:00 hrs., the Elks Flag Ceremony Golf Outing. It is scheduled for Sept 12 th, first Saturday after Labor Day. It was reported that the next Meeting is scheduled for May 20 th at 6 pm. CITIZENSHIP & EDUCATION / YOUTH DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEES
SCHOLARSHIPS Comrade Zynda is on vacation. The scholarships were presented to the winners during the joint meeting.. VOD/Patriot Pen: Comrade Cahill reported that there are over 250 home school students in the area. Will look for a method of contacting them. New Business: Commander Stoflet addressed the membership concerning the Vacant Quartermaster slot. Comrade Jim Cline agreed to accept the nomination for Quartermaster but his nomination for 3 year trustee would have to be declined. Comrade David Verhage volunteered to accept nomination for 3 year trustee. The Final Round of Nominations for Elected Offices was opened. Comrade Cline was nominated for Quartermaster by Comrade Brian Schultz. Comrade Cline accepted the nomination and declined his previous nomination for 3 year Trustee: 3 year Trustee declination was accepted by the Commander. No other nomination for Quartermaster was given. Comrade Verhage was nominated for 3 year Trustee by Comrade Gauthier. Nomination was accepted. The Election of Comrade Jim Cline for the position of Post Quartermaster was held and was Passed. The Election of Comrade David Verhage for the position of 3 year Trustee was held and was passed. The new slate of Elected Post Officers is set and is as follows; Commander-Ron Stoflet, Sr. Vice Commander-Mike Zynda, Jr. Vice Commander-Al Tessmann, Quartermaster-Jim Cline, Chaplain-Frank Raschka, 3 Year Trustee-David Verhage, 2 Year Trustee-Scott Halverson, 1 Year Trustee-Andy Suchon, House Committee 3 year Trustee Gary Jay. The Appointed Officer positions were accepted for the new term and are as follows: Judge Advocate- The Honorable Mike McKenna, Surgeon-Mike Worzalla, Service Officer-Guy Mockler, Officer of the Day- Scott Halverson, Adjutant-Norb Strasser. The new slate of elected and appointed officers were installed by former commander, Comrade Joe Cahill. NOTE: Comrade Zynda was on vacation and was not installed. He will need to be installed at the next meeting.
STATE CONVENTION The Slate of Candidates for State Offices listed on our meeting agenda was discussed. It was finally decided that it would be left up to our delegate to the convention to vote the candidates for those positions. Motion was made by Comrade Tessmann and seconded by Comrade Suchon and passed by the membership to let our delegate vote for the delegate of his choice. The Candidates for National Council were discussed. Comrade Schultz made a motion the post support John Giese for the position. Motion was seconded by Comrade Cahill. Motion passed. Commander Stoflet discussed the Review of the 7 th District Reporting Snapshot. Good of the order. Honor Flight was discussed. Commander Stoflet mentioned his trip to the Loyalty Day Event. Comrade Matthees has been reelected District 7 Quartermaster. Discussed the 365 Raffle Ticket Sales. Sell the new Calendar as 365 raffle chances. Commander Stoflet mentioned the Hoover Ave Clean-up. Commander Stoflet read a letter from the Commander in Chief recognizing Comrade Schultz for bringing in five new members and the post leads the District with 12 new members. Certificates were presented to Comrades Raschka, Stevens, Zynda, Suchon and Strasser for support of youth education.
