I am the events coordinator for the City of St. Augustine Beach. MAX S CORNER City Manager Max Royle, discusses building height. Information from the St. Augustine Beach City Manager, Max Royle, about various matters. A City Charter amendment limits the height of buildings in the City to 35 feet, with an additional 10 feet allowed for a parapet wall to conceal the tops of elevator shafts and air conditioning equipment. There s a controversy as to where the beginning point for the 35 feet is to be measured. Some City residents believe that point should be at ground level, or one foot above the crown of the adjacent street. However, for buildings constructed along the City s shoreline, there are state regulations that must be followed. For more information click on: http://www.staugbch.com/documents/newsletter/15/mr11.pdf Upcoming Meetings in St. Augustine Beach: CITY COMMISSION: It will hold its regular monthly meeting on Monday, November 9, 2015 in the Commission meeting room at city hall, 2200 A1A South. A Message from Mayor Samuels On November 12, 2015 the City Commission will be holding a workshop to discuss the height limit issue. The workshop will be held at 5 p.m. in the City Commission meeting room. The workshop is being held to specifically give to the residents correct, clear and concise information in regard to the federal and state laws for construction in coastal areas. Expert speakers will be presenting to the commission and public in regard to these statutes and what they could possibly mean to the City. Recommendations for language as to the definition of grade will be discussed so as to uphold the intent of the 35foot height limit. I encourage all residents to attend. This information will be recorded and available for those residents that are unable to attend. It will also be posted on the web site and on other social media that is appropriate! The regularly scheduled commission meeting was moved to November 9, 2015. The commission will be meeting at 7 p.m. in the City Commission meeting room. Click here to read this article in its entirety: http://www.staugbch.com/documents/newsletter/15/as11.pdf To Protect and Serve from our Police Department The St. Augustine Beach Police Department wants you to conduct your e- commerce transactions (Craigslist, Swip-Swap, etc,) in our parking lot SABPD has established an E-commerce Exchange Zone in our front parking lot for those who wish to conduct such transactions at a neutral site and where video surveillance is in place. Selling and buying things online can be tricky, and sometimes scary, because the people involved don't know each other. Now there's a new and safer place where anyone can go just to make those exchanges. If a criminal offense occurs, we ll get involved. If there s a civil dispute, we won t. We encourage you to use the designated area during business hours as a neutral site. It is our hope that by establishing this program, we can prevent our community members from being victimized. 3
