2d Battalion 8th Marines Memorial Service to honor the Heroes of America s Battalion Friday, the fourth of December Two thousand nine Camp Lejeune, North Carolina
Invocation National Anthem Chaplain Roberts First Reading Psalm 23 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever. Second Reading II Timothy 4:6-8 For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing. Commanding Officer s Remarks Pastoral Reflection Chaplain Roberts LtCol Cabaniss Personal Reflections Special Music Amazing Grace Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me, I once was lost but now I am found, was blind but now I see.
Marine s Prayer Almighty Father, whose command is over all and whose love never fails, make me aware of Thy presence and obedient to Thy will. Keep me true to my best self, guarding me against dishonesty in purpose and deed and help me to live so that I can face my fellow Marines, my loved ones, and Thee without shame or fear. Protect my family. Give me the will to do the work of a Marine and to accept my share of responsibilities with vigor and enthusiasm. Grant me the courage to be proficient in my daily performance. Keep me loyal and faithful to my superiors and to the duties my country and the Marine Corps have entrusted me. Make me considerate of those committed to my leadership. Help me to wear my uniform with dignity, and let it remind me daily of the traditions which I must uphold. If I am inclined to doubt, steady my faith; if I am tempted, make me strong to resist; if I should miss the mark, give me courage to try again. Guide me with the light of truth and grant me wisdom by which I may understand the answer to my prayer. AMEN. Hymn Eternal Father Eternal Father, strong to save, whose arm hath bound the restless wave, who bidd st the mighty ocean deep, its own appointed limits keep, O hear us when we cry to thee for those in peril on the sea! Eternal Father, grant we pray, to all Marines, both night and day, the courage, honor, strength and skill, their land to serve, thy law fulfill; be thou the shield forevermore from every peril to the Corps. Roll Call Taps Please remain standing until the families, distinguished visitors, and staffs depart the memorial.
