Our mission has evolved with the changes in the technical, political and clinical environments in recent years, requiring us to continually reassess all aspects of our practice. We believe that all radiographers are independent practitioners who in partnership with the Radiologists and the Trust have realised our objectives, and meet the needs of our patients. MRI scanning Ultrasound General radiographic imaging Mammography Dedicated Angiography Theatre Barium Studies Nuclear Imaging When Peterborough City Hospital was opened in November 2010, the department was equipped with brand new digital equipment in all imaging areas, and any residual equipment from our former site will be totally replaced by 2014. Consultant Radiologist, Director of Breast Screening We are looking for a Director of Breast Screening to join our very successful team with the retirement of our existing Director in May 2012. Breast MRI experience would be advantageous, but is not essential, as there is still the opportunity for training once in post. The remaining time within the Job plan is to be arranged by mutual agreement to cover either a sub specialty and/or cross sectional imaging interest within main imaging. From GE Healthcare This is a purpose built and dedicated Breast Imaging Unit, situated in the new Peterborough City Hospital. All clinics and imaging of screening and symptomatic work is undertaken within this unit to ensure as much of a one stop service as is possible. The Breast Unit is fully digital including the mobile unit with 4 Seno Essential FFDM units, and we have 2 GE Logic 7 ultrasound machines which are due to be replaced in 2012. There is an excellent team of staff in this state of the art unit, regularly meeting all of their screening and waiting time targets. Peterborough is a relatively traffic free environment yet is situated near major road links and is on the east coast rail line. London and only sixty minutes away by train. From GE Healthcare We have had a Consultant Radiographer in post for over a year and many experienced advanced practice staff film reading, stereo biopsy and SLNB injection preparation and administering. We began age extension in January 2011 for the younger population and we will be fully extended by 2013. We are not part of the randomisation project pre age extension (50 70), and our screening population was approximately 45,000. Following the younger age group extension our population has risen to an estimate of 52,313. With the proposed retirement of our Director of Breast Screening, the Ongoing Age Extension Programme, and the state of the art Department and City Hospital, this offers the successful candidate, a unique opportunity to establish their future career pathway and develop this excellent unit even further. About Peterborough Modern Peterborough is a thriving city, a regional centre for commerce, industry, transport and leisure. It is rapidly expanding to meet the demand for new houses, and is home to a community of diverse cultures. The city is surrounded by contrasting countryside, gently undulating limestone and clay hills to the west and the flat expanse of the Fens to the east. Limestone cottages and winding sunken lanes give way to bold brick buildings and long straight roads and dykes. Historical Peterborough Today's highly productive agricultural landscape bears no resemblance to the Fens of pre historic and medieval times. The city too has changed enormously, only with the flourishing of the abbey did a town develop at Peterborough and the last two centuries have seen its extraordinary growth.
