Governor Abbott Orders Immediate Action To Address The Safety Of Texas Schools 2/21/18 Share information from TxSSC with districts re school safety programs to ensure access to the most up to date information and strategies to protect schools and students from attacks like the one in Parkland. Ensure completion of the required school safety audits. Ensure districts have a multihazard emergency operations plan in place and ensure that schools have conducted safety and security audits on all facilities. Publish on the TEA website and via Agency press release a list of school districts that have not completed the statutory school safety audit requirements within 45 days.
Governor Abbott Orders Immediate Action to Address the Safety of Texas Schools 2/21/18 Work with the TxSCC, DPS and the Governor's office to draft recommendations to the Texas Legislature on changes to school safety. May include: a. increased quality controls on school safety audits and emergency operations plans, including TEA intervention when audits or plans are deemed inadequate; b. requiring charter schools to be subject to the same school safety requirements of school districts; c. improvements to the school safety committee, including requiring certain local and school officials to participate on the committee or requiring the committee to submit findings to the school board; d. required reporting procedures school districts must follow when terroristic or other threats are received, including provisions for parental notification of certain threats; and e. provisions for increasing the safety of portable buildings and school sporting events.
