Health and social care mock trial what s your verdict? IOSH Health and Social Care Group event in conjunction with, 30 Crown Place, London, EC2A 4ES The IOSH Health and Social Care Group is delighted to announce this exciting all-day mock trial, which takes place in a courtroom setting. As a director, senior manager or supervisor working in health and social care, it is your responsibility to make sure things go right for your organisation. But even with the best will, things can still go wrong. This mock trial is supported and facilitated by specialist safety and health lawyers at international law firm Pinsent Masons LLP. As well as acting as the presiding judge, the lawyers will act as counsel for both the prosecution and defence. IOSH committee members will act as witnesses. Acting as the jury, delegates in this mock trial will listen to the witness evidence about a hospital incident that resulted in a fatality, the potential causes of the incident, and an analysis of the hospital s and NHS trust s policies and practices. The prosecution and defence lawyers will present respective arguments either supporting or criticising the NHS trust and its relevant senior employees. After hearing all the evidence, the jury will then need to make the crucial decision about the defendant: are they guilty or not guilty? What s in it for you? This event aims to explain what can happen when things go wrong and a person in your care is injured. It will close with a discussion of the verdict and its implications, and delegates will have an opportunity to question the legal team. The session will provide delegates with an understanding of both the legal process and how a defendant may respond in court. Delegates will also get the chance to network with fellow professionals. As with all IOSH events, any value gained from attending this event can be included as part of your CPD portfolio. Who should attend? This event is aimed at all executives, directors, safety and risk professionals, clinical and non-clinical managers, and senior managers.
