Govt has created a single local growth fund. LEPs to create new multi-year plans for growth. Streamline the management of EU funds aligned with LEP plans. Getting a foothold in your LEP Introductions The West of England LEP The benefits of getting involved How to get involved What has been achieved Key messages and takeaways

The benefits of getting involved Influence priorities and position of housing e.g. infrastructure and placeshaping agendas Potential for LEPs as funding bodies - post Heseltine No Stone Unturned - Single Growth Pot Commissioner and Provider role? Strengthen links - personal, organisational and sector representative with key local businesses/players Broader awareness of business and LA perspectives, tensions, theme and place priorities Share complementary expertise wider aspects of housing (inc. open market, market rent), macro economic dynamics of UK housing markets, regeneration, social enterprise, asset management etc

How to get involved Understand structure of LEP(S) where can you provide most value? Open v closed entry points? How are appointments made? Position yourself with a business facing offer significant investor, employer, developer, solutions - your contribution for each LEP area? Give practical examples of outcomes e.g. job creation and growth Tailor your CV what will you bring to the table? your USP? your specific added value offer? what other roles are relevant? Put yourself about and put in the hours network attend related events meet key LEP people show support and encouragement Volunteer and offer knowledge/resources/involvement

How to get involved Business and LA offer position yourself and your offer so acceptable to both camps And finally LEP s purpose is creating conditions and taking actions to support jobs and growth so be crystal clear how your housing related engagement offer directly supports LEP achievement of these objectives

What has been achieved Raised awareness of the housing crisis and the impact on economic growth, job creation Raised awareness of the housing offer - direct house building activity and the wider economic impact Support deeper understanding of private sector/rp/la issues and solutions e.g. business models, Housing Workshops, Planning Toolkit Support and advocacy for more strategic approach e.g. Bristol Property Board (strategic land asset management) Supporting debate around housing numbers political sensitivity needed here - consensus on scale of issue/crisis

Support for Grant Britain Homes LEP Chair to Mark Prisk

The wider pro housing network in the WOE LEP Key pro housing LEP members LA and business sector Mostly strong LA officer support Other influencing bodies - National Housing Federation (Local Economic Drivers Guides), South West Housing Initiative, Homes for Bristol Bristol s Elected (Independent) Mayor George Ferguson Homes and Communities Agency Other RPs/CEOs

Key takeaways LEPs are business led so focus on your business credentials for maxing your personal contribution Results achieved by building trust, confidence, networks with key decision makers/bodies entry to LEP a starting point LEPs all about delivering jobs and growth so link your inputs to this like a worn record Be prepared for set backs LEPs often have conflicting priorities There will be ways to engage if you look hard enough and are prepared to put in the time and effort Once inside the tent keep repeating consistent messages
