EXERCISES 1. PURPOSE To ensure that adequate familiarization and onboard training is provided to the vessel s personnel, excluding Master and Chief Engineer, who will be familiarized at the Company each time before embarkation. 2. RESPONSIBILITY The Master is responsible to verify efficiency of officers and crewmembers familiarization, to identify training needs, to ensure adequate shipboard training for the crew and responding to emergencies, and to plan and supervise onboard training. The Chief Officer and Chief Engineer are responsible for familiarization and conducting the onboard training. 3. DESCRIPTION OF PROCEDURE 3.1. General Training of the personnel on board is for the safety of the ship, its personnel and for the protection of the environment (pollution prevention). The Master shall identify training needs on board through the following: a) During familiarization process b) Performance during drills and exercises c) Day-to-day activities d) Internal and/or external audits e) Changes of regulations or industry requirements f) SQMS review The Company shall instruct the vessel s management how to conduct training for the personnel onboard. Main focus should be operations and actions related to safety, environmental protection and the quality system. Training of onboard personnel can be: Presentation of training videos Examination of specific documentation briefing by the Company s staff

Visiting the vessel Carrying out actual exercises EXERCISES Newly hired Masters and Chief Engineers shall be familiarized with the Company s SQMS before joining the vessel, as described in Training procedure of OFFICE DEPARTMENTAL PROCEDURES MANUAL. The Company shall encourage crewmembers to improve their knowledge of shipboard procedures.

EXERCISES 3.2. Onboard Training The Master and officer shall provide the training of the shipboard personnel for the various tasks, that may be necessary, for the safe and environmentally correct operation of the ship, and in case of emergency. On the job training of personnel may be performed by other means (video-tapes, self-training tools/software, etc ). Training will include following aspects: a) SAFETY TRAINING Training shall be performed in accordance with the provisions of SOLAS and other national rules and regulations, and whenever the Master deems it necessary to improve skills of the crewmembers. Training should not be confused with execution of the safety and pollution prevention drills (regular SOLAS and other drills). b) OPERATION OF THE SHIP (including environmental procedures and instructions) The Master and the Chief Engineer or designated officers, shall train the personnel of the relevant departments on the procedures and instructions, concerning their duties and activities, as required by the SQMS and further motivate the crew to follow the Company policies. Drills on fire, oil pollution, abandon-ship, casualty rescue, etc. shall be conducted and ship staff given on the spot training. This training also includes the use of various lifesaving equipment, such as: Correct choice and use of fire extinguishing agents and equipment Use of fixed fire fighting systems Use of breathing apparatus Information regarding evacuation procedure Preparation and launching of lifeboats and rafts (including the use of equipment) How to survive in lifeboat and rafts How to wear and use the survival suits Use of first aid equipment Oil Spill Prevention and Containment Training as per vessel s SOPEP Manual shall be regularly performed and all staff made aware of equipment available on board and its location. NOTE: Additional Requirements for Ships under Liberian Flag see procedure Emergency Organization/Drills. For this purpose, the following are used: a) An experienced officer, prior sailing, shall familiarize the incoming officers with the duties they may be expected to perform. Another officer will join the new officer during the first watch (of a period of time). b) To ensure that an experienced senior officer is always available both for deck and engine departments the Master or Chief Engineer will not disembark (in principle) with their deputy. c) Chief 2fficer or the VW (ngineer shall familiarize petty officers and ratings prior sailing.

EXERCISES All personnel are to familiarize themselves with: The Muster plan, Emergency plans and their specific duties in the event of emergencies Lifeboats and their location The layouts of the ship, including emergency exits and escape routs from their cabin The location and use of lifejackets, lifebuoys, liferafts and fire-fighting equipment The proper use of safety and personnel protection equipment Work procedures and plans The requirement to report all accidents, near misses, potential hazards and unsafe conditions. Vessel s Master and Chief Engineer shall visit the Company s office prior to joining the vessel. The vessel s operation and maintenance shall be discussed (with the shore organization) during their visit, along with any issues relating to Safety and Company s procedures. In special cases, the familiarization should take place onboard the vessel by the Company senior member. If appropriate, each vessel s management attends a meeting in Company during their home period in order to discuss in detail vessel s operation, maintenance and accounts. 3.3. Third parties familiarization Eventually sailing onboard (supercargo, family members etc.) should be familiarized with the safety procedures stated in this document prior to departure. 4. RECORDS All familiarization and training performed on board shall be recorded on the specific forms and in the Logbook (bridge or engine room), kept on board for minimum five years and sent to the Company.
