International Bar Association Section on Energy, Environment, Natural Resources and Infrastructure Law (SEERIL) Scholarships for Energy and Natural Resources Law Studies The IBA Section on Energy, Environment, Natural Resources and Infrastructure Law (SEERIL) and its Academic Advisory Group (AAG) are delighted to announce that SEERIL is to award scholarships and research grants to students wishing to pursue advanced studies in energy and natural resources law. The aim of SEERIL and its committees is to advance the development and understanding of the law affecting oil and gas, mining, power, water, international construction projects and environment, health and safety law. The AAG is a distinctive feature of SEERIL, the aims of which are to establish and maintain contact with academics throughout the world and to arrange for the exchange of information on courses of study at all levels and to find opportunities for the secondment by way of exchange of academics and students. This scholarship, for an amount of up to 18,000 GBP, will consider studies that may involve a masters, PhD or post-doctoral research project. Research grants may be made to doctoral or post-doctoral students to enable further research on an important topic. It is recognised that there are considerable differences between education programmes around the world and the committee is dedicated to ensuring that all possibilities for graduate and post graduate studies in energy and natural resources law are eligible. Applications will be received from students graduating from, or accepted for study at, a qualifying academic institution. The IBA therefore invites interested students (or institutions) to apply for a scholarship. All applications received by Friday 15 April 2011 will be submitted to the Scholarship Committee. Each candidate must meet the requirements set out in the criteria overleaf.

Criteria 1. The SEERIL Scholarship for Energy Law Studies is open to all qualifying academic institutions and their students free of charge. A qualifying academic institution is one where at least one member of the faculty is a member of the IBA and a SEERIL committee. 2. Students may only submit one application. Employees of the IBA or officers of any IBA committee are excluded from entering. 3. All applications will be submitted to the Scholarship Committee which will consist of the following SEERIL and AAG members: Barry Barton Alan Dunlop José Juan González Al Lucas Martha Roggenkamp 4. Applications will be assessed primarily on the basis of the following: the extent to which the studies involve energy and natural resources law research; the credentials of the student, illustrated on the basis of previous study result and letter(s) of recommendation; the need of the student and in the case of an application from an institution, assessment will be based on the aim and content of the research proposal and the extent to which the funding is necessary to start the research project. 5. The completed application form must be returned by Friday 15 April 2011 to: Charlotte Evans International Bar Association 10th Floor, Stephen Street, London W1T 1AT, United Kingdom Tel: +44 (0)20 7691 6868 Fax: +44 (02)0 7691 6545 E-mail: charlotte.evans@int-bar.org 6. Applications received after Friday 15 April 2011 will not be considered. 7. The IBA Office will communicate the Scholarship Committee s decision to applicants by the end of July 2011. 8. The decision of the Scholarship Committee is final and no correspondence will be entered into. The decision will be published on the IBA website. The successful applicant will be contacted at the email address given on the application form.

9. Neither the IBA, the Scholarship Committee, nor the organisers of the scholarship are responsible for your costs in preparing an application, nor for its loss, damage or non-arrival. 10. Those students (or institutions) receiving a scholarship will be required to make a reference to the IBA/SEERIL in all study results published, e.g., papers or articles published as a result of the scholarship should include such reference. The AAG may ask the holder of the scholarship to participate in selected conferences. 11. All applicants will be deemed to have read and accepted all the above rules.
