Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre ABSTRACT SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

GENERAL INFORMATION BACKGROUND As the pre-eminent national professional organisation for nurses, the Australian College of Nursing (ACN) is inviting nurses and undergraduates from all over Australia, and internationally, from all settings to submit an abstract for our signature event, The National Nursing Forum (NNF). THEME At the 2017 National Nursing Forum we heard from presenters on how they were Making Change Happen using their voices to influence and lead change in nursing, health and aged care. In 2018 we will be exploring the theme of Diversity and Difference in our keynote plenary sessions and throughout the NNF. INVITATION TO SUBMIT AN ABSTRACT We invite undergraduates through to retired nurses to share their learnings, insights and stories and to submit an abstract for consideration as an oral presentation or poster in one of the four streams below: 1. IT and Digital 2. Diversity 3. Trailblazers (pushing the boundaries) 4. Policy and Practice There will be an opportunity for you to let us know if you are a first time presenter and ACN welcomes the chance to nurture and promote new talent. This is your opportunity to present on a national scale. In addition to presenting at the NNF, all accepted abstracts provide author/s a guaranteed opportunity to submit a written paper based on your abstract to be published in an ACN publication in the year following the event. PREVIOUS ABSTRACT SUBMISSIONS To assist with your 2018 submission, you may wish to view previous successful abstracts. The 2017 abstracts are available for viewing on pages 43 93 in the 2017 NNF eprogram here. KEY DATES 1 DECEMBER 2017 Abstract submissions open 19 FEBRUARY 2018 Abstract submissions close 10 APRIL 2018 Authors notified of submission outcome 17 APRIL 2018 Presenters to confirm acceptance 30 JUNE 2018 Presenter registrations due 2 THE NATIONAL NURSING FORUM 2018

SUCCESSFUL ABSTRACTS Successful abstracts will be published in the NNF eprogram which will be available from the ACN website. Successful authors will have the opportunity to provide a written paper based on their abstract to be published in an ACN publication in the year following the event. SUCCESSFUL ORAL PRESENTATIONS Abstract presentations will be 15 minutes plus five minutes for questions and discussion. The room will be equipped with a data projector, screen and laptop computer. Only presentations in PowerPoint will be supported. Presenters should bring their PowerPoint presentation with them to submit to Speakers Support at least 60 minutes prior to the commencement of the session. ACN is committed to continuous quality improvement, feedback received from the 2017 NNF indicated that some abstract presentations did not reflect the content of the abstract. We will be monitoring this closely in 2018 to provide delegates with an exceptional experience. If your abstract is successful, please make sure that your presentation remains true to the content in the submitted abstract. SUCCESSFUL POSTERS Posters to be prepared in AO size (841mm W x 1190mm H). Should be to an academic research poster standard. Posters will be displayed for the duration of the NNF on display boards. Dedicated poster presentation sessions will be held on Wednesday 29 August where the author / co-authors must be present to share their work and ideas and answer any questions. Four best poster prizes will be awarded in each of the NNF categories of: IT and Digital, Diversity, Trailblazers (pushing the boundaries) and Policy and Practice. Posters will be judged by NNF delegates. Posters must be displayed at the NNF to be eligible for voting and the prize. The successful author / co-authors must bring their poster with them and provide to the dedicated ACN staff on day one of the NNF. SELECTION PROCESS AND ACCEPTANCE NOTIFICATION The Abstract Review Committee will undertake a peer-review process to judge the abstracts. Abstracts will be reviewed on their contribution to nursing leadership, relevance to the NNF streams, adherence to the submission guidelines and overall quality. Abstracts submitted for oral presentation may be offered a poster presentation at the discretion of the Abstract Review Committee. It is anticipated that the submitting author will be notified of their abstract submission outcome via email on 10 April 2018. 4 THE NATIONAL NURSING FORUM 2018
