We represent a lot of different areas on campus.
Because of this, we have a good sense of what the campus needs. The goal: Establish innovative, university-wide relationships with key industry partners to support the university s mission of teaching, research and public service. We noticed that different areas on campus had relationships with the same or similar commodities. Example: Uber and Lyft. How do these partnerships benefit the university? Unified brand and messaging More favorable terms Unique UC San Diego-specific programs Internships and employment placements Scholarships and research opportunities New revenue streams Decreased costs and improved services With regards to rideshare services, we wanted to develop a partnership that improves access, reduces congestion, enhances the transportation experience, is tailored to students, faculty, staff and patients, supports underfunded programs and is scalable for higher education. Learn more about current UC San Diego-specific Lyft programs here: http://blink.ucsd.edu/sponsor/bfs/divisions/ipps/ipps-initiatives/lyft/index.html
Business Travel: Employees can expense rides with ease by selecting their preferred payment method for trips, routing business ride receipts directly to their work inbox, and switching easily between personal and professional rides. New activations receive $15 in personal ride credit! Lyft Events: With Lyft Events, departments can ensure University guests have a convenient ride to and from local University sponsored events. How Lyft events work: set up your event, provide the unique event code to guests, and on the day of the event guests can use the promo code for a department funded Lyft ride. Concierge: With the Concierge platform, departments can remotely request rides for anyone from employees and guests to students. It is a convenient way to support business transportation needs, with no app or smartphone required. Rides can be requested on demand, or scheduled days in advance. To request Concierge access, please send your request to ASK (login required) and describe how your department will use rideshare services to conduct University business (excludes employees on 'travel status'). Safe Rides: The Associated Students have teamed up with Lyft to provide safe rides home for students. The Safe Rides program provides subsidized transportation to students who link their @ucsd.edu email address with a Lyft account. Students can unlock 2 free rides (up to $10 each) per quarter and use the Lyft app to arrange for rides that begin or end within the geofenced areas during the hours of 9 p.m. - 3 a.m.
Lyft FLEX: To complement existing alternative commuting programs and reduce parking congestion, employees and students can now participate in the Lyft FLEX program. Lyft FLEX plans include: Lyft FLEX 195 $180 = $195 Lyft credit 5 free days of parking Lyft FLEX 390 $360 = $390 Lyft credit 10 free days of parking Friends & Family: Lyft is providing $5 off one ride for Friends and Family of UC San Diego (new users only). Offer the Friends and Family promotion to visiting parents, guests headed to or from the airport, or as encouragement to use rideshare services to attend campus and sporting events. A Case for Amazon Amazon packages represented 40% of student package volume $3M recurring annual spend on p-card Limited visibility into purchases; no preventative controls Use of personal accounts on amazon.com Prime memberships Perception that Amazon has better prices Revenue opportunity for UC San Diego Idea: An integrated model to support higher education A singular program managed under one agreement to: Decrease package volume without adding vehicles on campus Provide Prime-like benefits on business purchases Reduce risk Collapse our Amazon Web Services (cloud services) We learned that Amazon has many faces. We tried to combine as many services as possible into the Amazon Campus and Amazon Business Programs: Pick-up Point Amazon Business: Provides visibility into rogue spend because users access in Marketplace; free chipping for all UC Strategic partnership to influence how Amazon interacts with Higher Ed Support for student programs such as the Triton Food Pantry UC San Diego has 30,680 single-occupant vehicles commuting per day but only 17,000 parking spaces. UC San Diego has a track record of creating partnerships that the rest of the UCs adopt. One of the things we ve found most challenging is packaging the university for our different partners.
Upcoming initiatives include partnering partnerships (Lyft and Spin), airlines and short-term lodging (Airbnb). NEXT MEETING: Wednesday, May 30, 2018
