Exhibit I BRENTWOOD PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH ENDOWMENT FUNDS WHAT ARE ENDOWMENT FUNDS? Endowment funds represent money set aside either by the donor or by Session to provide income in perpetuity to support the goals of Brentwood Presbyterian Church. The endowment funds are not available to be spent; they are invested in income-earning assets, and the income and capital appreciation is then available to be spent in accordance with the terms of the particular endowment. There are restrictions as to how income from endowment funds may be spent. Those restrictions were set either by the original donor or by prior Sessions. Each of the funds has its stated purposes or goals as described in Exhibit III. Exhibit II BRENTWOOD PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH ENDOWMENT FUNDS CRITERIA USED IN JUDGING GRANT APPLICATIONS 1. Proposed projects must meet the specific criteria of the particular endowment funds being applied for. 2. Proposals must come from established BPC committees and be approved by a Ministry Leader, Elder, Deacon, staff member or Pastor for that committee. 3. Proposed projects should not be substitutes for normal operating budget items (unless specified otherwise by the donor of an individual fund). 4. Proposed projects should be consistent with BPC s mission, goals and core values. 5. Preference will be given to projects that benefit a relatively large or particularly needy population, as opposed to projects that benefit a fairly narrow population or one that has other resources available. 6. Preferences will be given to projects that result in visible, measurable, and lasting benefits. The process of considering grant applications is not closed and is open to feedback. The Endowment Ministry can provide advice to the committee or person submitting the application. The committee reviews all grants and may seek compromises where there are competing requests for funds. A summary of the recommended expenditures and those expenditures not recommended will be provided to Session for their modification and approval. Session retains full authority and responsibility for the ultimate determination of the expenditure of endowment funds. 5
