PRIME Academy Terumo India partners with Medanta The Medicity, for Advanced Perfusion Training Program 18 th -19 th January, 2017, Medanta-The Medicity Hospital Gurgaon, Haryana, India. Cardiovascular Business and Medical Affairs, Terumo India Overview Throughout the modern era of cardiac surgery, most operations have been performed via median sternotomy with cardiopulmonary bypass. This paradigm is changing, however, as cardiovascular surgery is increasingly adopting minimally invasive, port access techniques. Advances in patient evaluation, instrumentation, and operative and perfusion technique have allowed surgeons, perfusionists perform a wide variety of complex operations through smaller incisions. With patients desiring less invasive operations and the literature supporting decreased blood loss, shorter hospital length of stay, improved postoperative pain leads to better patient outcome. Along with the broader perfusion community, perfusion is in the midst of an ongoing evolution in technique. What began in the 1990s with the first reports of minimally invasive valve surgery has spread to influence nearly every type of cardiovascular operation performed today, and this evolution is being further spurred by the continuous training and education. Objective Terumo India initiated PRIME academy (Perfusion Related Insights Management and Evidences) in academic partnership with Indian Society of extracorporeal technology ISECT (only National Perfusion society across India) and CoE Medanta The Medicity. To meet the unmet needs of the perfusionists and bring the best of perfusion strategies in port access, heart transplant and complex surgical repairs. To incorporate the cutting edge evidence- based perfusion practice during the cardiac surgeries.
Program PRIME Academy has conducted its second Advanced Perfusion Program at one of the largest cardiac centers, Medanta-The Medicity, to get an exposure of an experienced faculty of Cardiac Surgeons, Anaesthesiologists, and Senior Perfusionists, with hands on training and comprehensive lectures through a well-structured program for 2 days. Main attraction of the PRIME Scientific program was to develop better understanding of perfusion strategies in port access cardiac surgeries and heart transplant, blood conservation, cannulation techniques and clinical pharmacology in the special cases. Program highlight was an intermix of theoretical and practical sessions in operation theatres, case observations, clinical evidences in blood conservation, performing blood conservation techniques in OR and understanding Pediatric perfusion physiology. Scientific Program was inaugurated by Dr. Naresh Trehan- Chairman, Medanta The Medicity along with Mr. Probir Das Managing Director, Terumo India, Dr Sandeep Arora, Director Medical and Clinical Affairs, Terumo India, and Mr Sudipta Ghosh, Director Cardiovascular Business, Terumo India. Further, senior experts in the field of cardiac surgery and cardiac anaesthesiology were part of the scientific program. PRIME Academy Program at Medanta, received an overwhelming response and active participation from junior perfusionists and helped Terumo to emerge as a strong scientific partner amongst perfusion community in India.
