Call queries to date
Q and A: Funding Duration of contracts: 3 years for the groups and 4 years for the units. How many Units and Groups are you expecting to fund? No fixed target for the number of units and groups we wish to fund. The 60m will be allocated according to the quality of applications received and the selection panel will take a view on the balance between the two when making their recommendations. Can an institution make multiple applications? Yes, 2 for groups and 2 for units as lead bidder
Q and A: Working with LMICs Can organisations in LMICs be lead applicants? No, the Department of Health can only issue contracts to UK based institutions. Can the Units/Groups be based in an LMIC? Yes, if the funding is routed through a UK institution and the director is employed by that same institution Can funding be disbursed to LMIC institutions? Yes. We strongly encourage partnerships with LMIC researchers and institutions and would welcome this, at discretion of the lead institution. Can I include a European-based or other high-income country organisation as a partner? The position for this call is that non-uk institutions in high-income countries would not be eligible to lead on an application, however, they can be partners if there is a strong justification as to why the expertise they are bringing cannot be found in the UK or in an LMIC. You would need to provide evidence of this in your application.
Q and A: Remit Breadth of scheme, do applications need to address broad aspects of global health? No. Applications can focus on a specific theme where there is an unmet research or funding need. Is the call limited to NCDs? No. The call is open to all aspects of global health research where there is an unmet need. This includes infectious diseases.
