SUMMER STUDENTS EMPLOYMENT BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTIONS 2014-01PW Public Works Students Students will assist with various duties in the public works department related to maintenance of roads, sewers, water, landfill, cemetery, GPS and related infrastructure. 2014-02TR Trails Student Student to assist with the Kincardine Trails Association to assess and cost out the Huron Ridge to Kin-Huron roadside trail route alongside County Road 23. The Student will be working with the Public Works Department, and will assist the Trails Committee Chair in the establishment of a trail corridor, establishing a map notation, distributing referrals to other agencies, and notifying the public. Work on developing the concept plan which addresses user requirements, recreation features, structural features and landscape features. After a preliminary trail route has been identified, the qualified candidate would evaluate the physical and social elements in the field such as topography, soils and drainage, vegetation, hazards, natural features, aesthetics, access, potential recreation activities etc. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, GPS and GIS software would be an asset. ---
2014-03BP Termite Students Students are required to inspect properties to monitor termite activities, which include walking distances to probe and dig at soil wood contact points. All inspections recorded will be inputted, by the student, into the Municipal data base. 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Total 16 weeks. Rate of pay is minimum wage plus $1.00. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2014-04PD Parks Students Students will be grass cutting, weed eating, special event set-up and tear-down, painting, cleaning washrooms, garbage pick-up, cleaning the beach and other duties as assigned. Weekend work will be required. 2014-05BD Ball Diamond Maintenance Student Student will drag, line and maintain ball diamonds, cut grass, weed eat, clean washrooms, pick up garbage and perform other duties as assigned. Weekend work will be required. 40 hours per week, commencing end of April or May and ending in August or September. Total 18 weeks. 2014-06HD Horticulturist Students Students will be maintaining flower beds (i.e. weeding and planting), watering, trimming trees and shrubs and perform other duties as assigned. Weekend work will be required.
2014-07EAB Emerald Ash Borer Students Students to assist with the implementation of an Emerald Ash Borer Management Plan. The students will be required to inventory ash trees on municipal properties including municipal parks and roadways. Post-Secondary Students attending a Forestry Technician, or Horticultural, Environmental or Arborist Program (or equivalent), would be an asset. Must have a valid driver s license and access to a vehicle. 40 hours per week, commencing May or June and ending in August or September. Total 16 weeks. -- 2014-08TD Tourism Students At the Visitor Information Centre, the students provide customer service and participate in event planning, promotions, photography, telephone & computer work and perform other duties as assigned. Working evenings, weekends and statutory holidays will be required. 30 hours per week for 18 weeks, commencing late April or May and ending in August or September. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2014-09TD Art Student(s) Student(s), with proven artistic ability, will paint up to 25 garbage cans with a Scottish theme. All supplies will be provided. Painting must be completed during regular business hours and prior to the end of summer. Total 150 hours.
2014-10RD Special Needs Co-ordinator Manages program delivery, administration and supervision of Special Needs/Inclusion services within Summer Day Camp. Provides daily direction and support to staff and volunteers. Ensures that daily activities are adapted to individual participant needs. Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate volunteers. Conduct intake meetings with families as required to better understand individual needs. Provides ongoing training, coaching and recognition to staff and volunteers. Researches information regarding various special needs to ensure successful integration and accommodation. Controls adaptive supplies and equipment inventory. Demonstrates the confidence and ability to make decisions independently in the best interests of the campers, resolving problems and conflicts. Maintain camp documentation including registration information, inclusion forms, camper profiles, timesheets, etc. Working weekends, evenings and Canada Day will be required. Requirements: Currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution in a related field. Previous leadership experience in a camp environment delivering support to participants with special needs. Current Standard First Aid with CPR C and AED. HIGH FIVE: Principles of Healthy Child Development. 40 hours per week for 13 weeks. Rate of pay is minimum wage plus $1.25 per hour. ---- DESCRIPTION 2014-11RD Program Co-ordinator Manages program planning, delivery, administration and supervision of recreation programs and special events. Organize, plan and implement daily camp programs for approximately 120 campers ages 4 12, participating in trips, games, sports and swimming. Creates camp program plans including field trips, day plans, special guests and daily camp activities. Liaise with parents and caregivers demonstrating excellent customer service to all stakeholders internal and external. Set-up and clean-up of camp events, activities and programs. Provide regular updates and feedback to the Recreation Supervisor. Orders, coordinates and controls supplies and equipment inventory for programs and special events.
Creation of promotion materials for programs and special events. Provides ongoing training, coaching and recognition to staff and volunteers. Demonstrates the confidence and ability to make decisions independently in the best interests of the campers, resolving problems and conflicts. Working weekends, evenings and Canada Day will be required. 40 hours per week for 10 weeks. Rate of pay is minimum wage plus $1.25 per hour. --- 2014-13RD Playground Leaders for Munchkins/Critter Crew/Lions & P.E.A.Ks Day Camp Groups Students will be responsible for the safety and supervision of program participants as well as taking an active role in the planning and leading of a variety of fun, quality activities and special events.
