Benham Volunteer & Community Service Scholarship Carol A Benham Volunteer & Community Service Scholarship was started in honor of Carol Benham, a wife, mother, MCS graduate, MCS employee, an EMS/EMT volunteer, a community leader and advocate for her community and a true example ofvolunteerism. As a wife, mother, MCS graduate, MCS employee, Carol was the lifeline, the connection, the communicator, a supporter of school functions and events, who consistently demonstrated her love of family and friends. As a community leader, Carol was a driving force and led by being chairperson ofmany community committees: Treasurer for MEVAC, Board ofdirections for the Artisan's Gallery, Board ofdirection/secretary for the Cobleskill Golf & Country Club and Treasurer for the Middleburgh Rod & Gun Club. As an advocate and supporter ofher community and a true example ofvolunteerism, Carol exemplified volunteerism by her participation and leadership in many community organizations such as Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, local & county EMS, Rod & Gun Club, and Cobleskill Golf & Country Club. Therefore, as Carol believed in family, her community and its people, this volunteer and leadership based scholarship is designed to help a high school senior entering college, trade/vocationsu school beyond high school. Since, Carol always had to have a challenge, we challenge the MCS graduating seniors to meet the challenge ofthe Carol A. Benham Volunteer & Community Service Scholarship! \
The Carol A. Benham Volunteer & Community Service Scholarship celebrates and recognizes high school seniors graduating from Middleburgh Central School who have given back to their community and school through volunteer service. Scholarship Guidelines: High School Senior graduating from Middleburgh Central School with an equivalent ofan 80 or higher G.P.A. Has participated in or completed a community or volunteer service in the past year. Have applied to an institution ofhigher learning technical college, community college, trade school or university) for the fall semester of2017. Scholarship amount shall be $750. The scholarship will be awarded to the individual after successful completion ofone year ofcollege or trade/technical school. Students must list Volunteer/Community Service they have completed i.e. Honor Society, FF A, Student Congress, etc.) Students must list all extracurricular activities. i.e. Band, Choir, Sports, etc.) Students must list job experience. i.e. after school, summer, etc.) Students must complete a 3-part essay on their role in volunteering and community service and what their future goals and plans are. All applications must be turned into Mrs. Schoenecker no later than -Thursoay,:April 13 1 \ 2017. The final three applicants will participate in a 15 minute interview. Judging Criteria A scholarship review committee will judge all completed applications. The review committee will include two family members and one community member. The scholarship will be based on scores from the following categories: o Amount of Service Your community service demonstrates significant thought and action in addressing the needs ofthe community. Service during the current school year will be initially considered, but we encourage you to include volunteer information from previous years as well. o Leadership Include information that demonstrates how you have been a leader by words or exarnples). o Impact of Service Demonstrate that your community service involves community need that is important to your school and/or your neighborhood. o Commitment to Service Based on your essay, does it appear that you have an. understanding ofcommunity need and a commitment to volunteerism?
