About PIA Representing approximately 5,000 professional members across Australia. THE PLANNING INSTITUTE OF AUSTRALIA The Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) is the peak national body representing the urban and regional planning profession. PIA s mission is to lead effective planning for people and places to ultimately deliver good planning outcomes for our communities. We do this by advocating for better planning, developing high quality planners, and supporting the profession. Founded in 1951, PIA remains at the forefront of promoting excellence in local, regional, state and national planning within the public and private sectors. PIA today represents approximately 5,000 professional members across Australia. PIA recognises and celebrates planning through our annual Awards for Planning Excellence program. We hold other events throughout the year and across jurisdictions to inform and enhance planners and their skills and to build awareness of the importance of good planning within the wider community. PIA NSW supports planners through our advocacy and collaboration with government, academia and the public and private sectors. We increase the knowledge of members through education, training and research, and promote the wide exchange of information and views in the community relating to planning issues and the sustainable use of land. OUR OBJECTIVE Our objective is to focus on policy and advocacy, strengthening our position as a commentator and source of policy advice on planning issues. We work with all levels of government; the property development industry and the community to create better planning systems focused on quality outcomes. ABOUT PLANNING + + Planning is about the management of growth and change in order to achieve liveable spaces and places that are socially, economically and environmentally sustainable. Often referred to as urban planning or town planning, planning is specifically concerned with shaping cities, towns and regions by managing development, infrastructure and services. + + Planning strengthens communities, facilitates economic development and improves the choices available for where and how people live and work. Planning helps identify hazards and reduce risks to create more resilient communities. It also identifies and protects environmental, social, cultural and heritage values. Partnership Opportunities with PIA in NSW PARTNERS PROGRAM OPPORTUNITIES The Partners Program is designed for organisations which offer tools, techniques, concepts, educational ideas and philosophies that assist the planning profession succeed as professionals. The program is dedicated to representing our premier relationships with these organisations through formal recognition, visibility on the PIA NSW website, on collateral for our many events and at particular forums and events and publications. Divisional Partnership of PIA NSW represents the principal support of the Division as a whole and is not restricted to an event. Organisations agree to make annual contributions to the value of amounts over $40,000 or $25,000 into sponsored or jointly-held activities to be eligible for Partner Status. Sponsorship Opportunities with PIA in NSW Events and Initiatives Rate Card PIA NSW delivers a large and varied calendar of activity each year. the business demographic for events includes planners from local government, state government, planning students, academics, urban designers, architects and developers. GST) NSW Planners Dinner (March) The NSW Planners Dinner is an annual event to bring professionals, involved in or interested in urban and regional planning, together to share ideas and explore the new plans for the state of NSW. Annual NSW State Conference (Sept) The NSW State Conference held in Sydney brings together 3 days of in depth discussion and networking. This conference features local, interstate and overseas speakers from planning and many related disciplines such as economics, demography, geography, environmental sciences, architecture and design. It is the perfect forum to exhibit new ideas, services and products and is a major conference of its type. Awards for Planning Excellence (Nov) The NSW Awards program is promoted for nearly 6 months of the year. It is designed to demonstrate leadership and achievement in planning and the planning profession. It attracts a high level of support and interest. It is designed to reward outstanding planning and planners and culminates in a glamourous gala presentation evening in one of Sydney s finest venues. NSW Young Planners The NSW Young Planners (YP) is a proactive special interest group of the NSW Division of PIA, established in 1993, to connect and support graduate and student planners through networking and professional development events. Professional Development Series PIA s Professional Development (PD) program addresses the need for lifelong learning in the workplace and professional environment. PIA Members are required to accumulate a minimum number of PD credits each year in order to maintain their Corporate Membership status. PIA NSW provides the principal program of PD activities for NSW planners, focusing particularly on topical issues facing planning professionals.
