Erasmus Erasmus There are a small number of open exchanges which are not limited to one School. OPEN PLACES Arts & Humanities and Social Sciences only Germany Freie Universität Berlin, Germany Italy Università degli Studi di Roma III, Italy Netherlands Amsterdam University College, Netherlands Non-EU Exchange and Erasmus Open Places application is available through the applications menu on your SIS Web Sweden Switzerland University-wide Netherlands Switzerland UK UK UK Lunds Universitet, Sweden Université de Lausanne, Switzerland Universiteit van Amsterdam, Netherlands Universität Zürich University of Nottingham, UK University of Edinburgh, UK University of Birmingham, UK

General General Information You can apply to be considered for both Erasmus and non-eu exchange but if offered one of each must make a decision quickly as to which one to take Students on exchange pay fees as normal to UCD. No tuition/registration fee to host university Must take and pass full courseload as agreed with your academic coordinator Science students must obtain a GPA equivalent to 2.48 while on exchange to be eligible to enter Stage 4

Next Steps General Information You ve been to a talk, you re interested in applying for exchange. What next? 1. Research your options Look at the exchange universities available to students of your major. Language: Are courses offered through English? If not, can you speak the language of country well enough to follow lectures, and do assignments and exams? Courses: Make sure that a wide range of courses in your major are offered. Students outside of Arts & Social Science will be required to take equivalent courses to those offered at Stage 3 in UCD while on exchange. It is your responsibility to research that your course/subjects are available in the universities you put on your form Location: Would you like to stay closer to home and come back at Christmas? Would you be OK going further afield and not returning at all during the academic year? Would you like to live in a city, a small town, or a rural setting?

Next Steps General Information 2. Calculate your finances You need to start thinking now about how you will fund your exchange semester/year. All exchanges require students to self-fund all or most of it. Erasmus grant available for students going on exchange within Europe approximately 220 to 270 per month Only funding available for non-eu exchange partners is for Universitas 21 (www.universitas21.com) partners in Asia and Latin America ( 500 per semester in 2017/18. Amount for 2018/19 tbc could be lower) US universities require students to show proof of funds when they apply to them for exchange (approx $18,000 per academic year depending on location) Approximate cost of living for non-eu exchange: 15,000 per academic year Approximate cost of living for Erasmus exchange: 9,000 per academic year Arts and Social Science students need to bear in mind that they will be adding a year to their degrees which means an extra year of costs including the fees normally paid to UCD - Students with a disablility who would like to go on an Erasmus exchange may be eligible for additional funding to support their exchange
