Alpha Epsilon Pi Omega Chapter The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill FALL 2016 NEWSLETTER Brothers at the Fall 2016 Parents Weekend dinner at the Carolina Inn Greetings, AEPi parents and alumni! We are finally closing the books on what has been an incredible fall semester for our chapter. This semester, our chapter hosted our first annual Karma for Cara Ice Cream Social, benefitting an amazing foundation that promotes youth engagement and cancer research. We initiated 15 new brothers one of our largest recent pledge classes growing our chapter to over 55 brothers. Last month, we all enjoyed a scenic mountain weekend in Daniels, West Virginia. We also learned that last year, our fraternity GPA ranked second among all Greek organizations on campus. We are very excited to see our chapter continue to thrive as one of the fastest growing, academically competitive and closely-knit brotherhoods on campus.

; 3 Lorem Ipsum Dolor Spring 2016 Karma for Cara Ice Cream Social AEPI FALL 2016 PHILANTHROPY Our Fall 2016 philanthropy event was an ice cream social held on September 9. Thanks to donations from various local vendors, the entire brotherhood served ice cream and frozen yogurt to students in front of our house on a hot Friday afternoon. The ice cream social benefitted Karma for Cara, a non-profit founded by Cara Becker, the sister of one of our current members. Cara passed away in 2012 after a long struggle with leukemia, but her organization continues to promote youth engagement in the fight against cancer. To learn more, please visit karmaforcara.org. Thanks to ticket sales and contributions from our parents and alumni, we were able to raise over $5,200 for the Karma for Cara foundation. 3

Alumni Homecoming We were happy to welcome our alumni back to Chapel Hill for Homecoming Weekend. On Friday, November 4, we enjoyed a lovely dinner at Hickory Tavern. On Saturday morning before the football game, we had a very successful crawfish boil tailgate, an old chapter tradition and an alumni favorite. Immediately afterward, many brothers and alumni walked to nearby Kenan Stadium to watch the UNC football team beat Georgia Tech, 48-20. We had an excellent turnout and were very happy to see many familiar faces back on campus. Alumni: Stay tuned for an email regarding the 2017 Spring Alumni Weekend! This year, it was also the weekend after the initiation of the Eta Deuteron pledge class. On Friday November 11, brothers and their dates drove north to Daniels, West Virginia, arriving at the Glade Springs Resort just in time for dinner that evening. On Saturday, we were able to enjoy the resort many brothers went on a hike with their dates, while others enjoyed the arcade, gym, and other amenities. Kevin has served on the Executive Committee as the Exchequer, New Member Educator and Sentinel over the past several years. He will graduate with a degree in Exercise and Sports Science with a concentration in Sports Administration, and after commencement he will move to Memphis, TN to work as a sales account manager for Procter and Gamble. 5

Growing our chapter isn t easy, which is why your contributions can make all the difference. If you would like to make a donation, please visit our website at www.aepiunc.org. Thank you so much for your continued support! HOUSING UPDATE Brothers congregate in the main room for our holiday gift exchange. We are very fortunate to have a beautiful home on Fraternity Court, which houses half of our brothers. This semester, we are beginning the process of renovating and improving the first floor main room in order to make it a gathering space for our brotherhood. We are also continuing the process of completing the third floor study area with new desks, study pods, lamps and bookshelves. Finally, to ensure the safety of our brothers, we are investing in new security cameras. We hope to finish many of these improvements by Parents Weekend.
