Each community contributes to the ethnic, cultural, and economic diversity of a growing population of over 65,000 residents who speak thirty-one languages and emigrated from sixty countries. More than 5% of Longwood students are English language learners. Additionally, 50% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch and achieve academic success in spite of their economic challenges. LONGWOOD HIGH SCHOOL Longwood Senior High School is a comprehensive secondary school with an enrollment of 2880 students, and a 260 member faculty. The Class of 2017 had 610 graduates with a graduation rate of 97%; 28% of these students entered four-year colleges and universities and 45% entered two-year colleges. Diploma types awarded: 90 Regents with Advanced Designation with Honors, 172 Regents with Advanced Designation, 9 Regents with Honors, 274 Regents, 52 Local, 13 SACC., 26 students awarded with the New York State Seal of Biliteracy. 2017-18 Enrollment Grade 9: 789 Grade 10: 732 Grade 11: 683 Grade 12: 683 Longwood regularly collaborates with Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL); teachers attend summer institutes, students assume internship roles, and BNL programs are accessed during the year. Students are involved in partnerships with Long Island colleges, including Stony Brook University s Science Technology Entry Program, Health Occupations Partnership for Excellence, Children s Defense Fund Freedom Schools Program; and Suffolk County Community College s Science Technology Entry and Liberty Partnerships Programs. In addition, Longwood participates in dual enrollment programs with Stony Brook University, SUNY Farmingdale and Suffolk Community college. LHS offers 25 dual enrollment courses. Logwood High school is also partnered with Suffolk Community College Early College Program. Longwood High School s Class of 2017 was awarded in excess of $15 million in college scholarship and community awards, a reflection of the high value the community places on postsecondary education and the local assistance they provide to support this goal.

Curriculum Longwood High School offers a rigorous, comprehensive curriculum to ensure college and career readiness for all students. In addition to Regents level courses, Honors, College, and Advanced Placement courses are offered in core curriculum areas, Career & Technical Education, LOTE, and Music. There are no restrictions on the number of Honors or Advanced Placement courses to which a student may subscribe; however, enrollment is subject to meeting certain departmental requirements. In addition to academics, Longwood students have been recognized at regional, state and national levels for excellence in athletics, art, music, technology, leadership and service. Grade Point Average (GPA) Students who challenge themselves by taking Honors and Advanced Placement courses receive extra weighting when calculating their GPA. Course grades that are listed on the transcript are un-weighted. Grades are weighted according to course level: Advanced Placement courses receive an additional weighting of.10, and Honors courses receive an additional weighting of.05. Weighted GPA is used solely for the purpose of class percentile ranking. If a subject is repeated, only the higher grade is included in the GPA.
