Point Reyes Medical Clinic Works under direction of Physician by performing the following duties listed under Scope of Work Responsibilities. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience: Associate Degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Language Skills: This position requires above average communication skills. Ability to present information effectively in one-on-one and small group situations to patients and other employees of the organization. Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred. Mathematical Skills: Basic High School math skills. Ability to convert units of measure. The ability to perform drug dosage calculations is essential. Run controls on glucometer Unlock the drug room Turn on the x-ray machine Turn on heaters or attic fan Get Quest Diagnostics lab results from printer, stamp & record them Make sure the patient s bathroom is stocked Run the autoclave Patient Intake: Greet patients Perform vitals Double-check the reason for the visit Perform any in-house tests that might be helpful (e.g. a U/A for a suspected bladder infection, a glucometer check before a diabetes consult, a pregnancy test for amenorrhea, etc. Check the chart for bloodwork results or other diagnostic tests that might have been performed. If these results are not in the chart, try to secure them for the clinician Notify the clinician that the patient is ready & advise them of the chief complaint Keep the clinicians apprised of the schedule & whether they re on time or are falling behind Perform phlebotomy and/or injections per clinician s order (usually at the end of the visit) Chart as necessary and maintain required logs End of Day Procedures: Wipe down all the tables and counter tops with Sani-dex Take out the garbages Turn off the heaters or the fan Lock the drug room Close and lock all windows Turn off the autoclave and x-ray machine Check the schedule book for the next day Turn off lights Put lab work out for courier pick up Periodic Responsibilities: CHA Job Description - Medical Assistant 1 page 3 of 4 July 2000

Check all drugs for expiration dates & discard expired ones Clean and organize drug room Re-sterilize expired instrument packs Make sure there are no blanks in the Outside Lab Test Log Clean the autoclave Run killits Review kids charts for immunization status & mail reminders Organize cabinets and drawers Check emergency meds. and oxygen tanks Check all supplies and note any items we might need to order Clean hard to reach places missed during ordinary janitorial efforts Other misc. duties as assigned by Medical Director. Physical Capacity: Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
