Hopkinsville Community College Commercial Driver License (CDL) Program Command Authorization Form Updated: December 2017 version 4 Career Skills Program (CSP) Fort Campbell, KY

What is Hopkinsville Community College CDL Program? The CDL Program helps active duty U.S. service members with little or no commercial driving experience prepare for an entry-level position with the trucking industry. Participants will be given networking opportunities with transportation companies and hiring managers will be given the opportunity to visit and observe the classroom and training range. What is a Career Skills Program? A career focused training program that can prepare the student for a promising career in the trucking industry. This program is an intense accelerated training program that is conducted Monday-Friday 0800-1700. The target audience, and high risk population, is the 18-24year old first-term Soldier. The CDL program is a 30-day program with an added day at a later time for testing and the classroom and training range serve as the primary place of duty. The classes are held at HCC, 720 North Drive, Hopkinsville, KY and the CDL Training Range at 9503 Eagle Way Bypass in Hopkinsville, KY. Students who complete the program will have an opportunity to network with transportation companies. Upon successful completion of the training program, graduates will have earned six hours of college credit, earned a CDL Learner s Permit and be prepared to take their Road Test for Class A Licensure. The Career Skills Program Coordinator will monitor the graduation and employment success rates. Applying for the program gives permission to share that information for tracking purposes. What are the requirements for application? Must: Be on Active Duty within 180 days of separation during course dates. Secure Command authorization to participate. Provide a copy of your current Army Enlisted Record Brief (ERB) or Officer Record Brief (ORB). Receive a Fully Honorable or General discharge. Have a high school diploma or GED. Completed Soldier for Life Program transition classes before start of CDL classes; provide CSP with copy of completed DD2648 (Nov 16). Read, write, and speak English. Meet Department of Transportation Physical requirements (provided by HCC). Pass Department of Transportation Drug Test (provided by HCC). Have a valid Driver s License. How do I apply and find out about the program? Attend an information session held monthly at the Career Skills Program at 5668 Wickham Avenue (Behind the SFL-TAP Bldg.) For upcoming dates contact the Career Skills Team or Hopkinsville Community College. POCs: Teresa K. English, Career Skills Program Coordinator: 270-798-6511 or teresa.k.english.civ@mail.mil CSP Installation Administrator: 270-798-4974 or 270-798-3195 or dodhra.campbell.dcpashrops.mbx.csp-mailbox@mail.mil or visit us at 5668 Wickham Avenue. Please note: Students with a driver's license from outside of Kentucky should plan to enroll at least 30 days before their class begins to avoid license transfer charges. Cohort dates Classes start on the first Monday of each month unless otherwise announced. See class dates below. Road tests are administered by Kentucky State Police by appointment only after the four-week class is completed. Road tests are typically scheduled during the first week after the class ends; however each student's schedule will vary. Please note that the college will schedule the road tests for all students and take students to the testing site. If a student does not pass the road test, the college will schedule retests and take students to as many as three additional testing appointments at no additional charge. Cohort dates are as follows: 3 July 2017 28 July 2017 7 August 2017 1 September 2017 5 September 2017 29 September 2017 2 October 2017 27 October 2017 6 November 2017 1 December 2017 **Classes run each month and if a Soldier has completed his CSP paperwork and HCC paperwork at least 30 prior to the beginning of class and if space is available, he could participate in a class that is not listed above.
