IE Singapore s International Marketing Assistance Programme (imap) & Double Tax Deduction (DTD)
International Marketing Activities Programme (imap)
Objectives of imap Encourage Trade Associations (TA) to be IE Singapore s strategic partners in helping Singapore-incorporated companies to internationalise successful. Enable TA to effectively organise Singapore Pavilions at international trade fairs and business missions for their members and business community at large.
Funding Principles imap is based on the co-sharing principle between government and companies To be eligible for reimbursement, companies will have to co-share the expenses incurred for the activities imap operates on a reimbursement basis Trade Association will seek reimbursement for eligible expenses from IE Singapore on behalf of participating companies
Qualifying Criteria 1) Companies must be incorporated/registered and based in Singapore (exclude branch office, representative office of foreign companies) 2) Companies must have at least 3 of the following core business functions based in Singapore: Market Development and Research and development and Planning design functions Banking, Financial and Treasury Manufacturing and other functions values-added activities Logistic and Shipping Business and Investment Planning management 3) The company booth must be located within the Singapore Pavilion with the same company name as per the Business Registration Certificate on the fascia board
Eligible support under imap imap enable companies to receive up to 50% reimbursement of the total eligible costs in: Space Rental Pavilion Construction Each company is eligible for imap support up to a maximum of 36 sqm.
imap Evaluation Form Participating companies are required to complete the imap Evaluation Form on the last day of the exhibition and submit it to SMF Secretariat IE Singapore will only disburse funds based on the return of the Evaluation Form Reimbursement to exhibitors will be made after SMF receives the subsidy from IE Singapore, approximately 4 to 6 months after exhibition
Double Tax Deduction (DTD)
Double-Tax-Deduction (DTD) Aims to encourage Singapore-based companies to expand their business in overseas markets Allows the company to enjoy tax savings i.e. deduct twice the eligible expenses incurred against your company s taxable income Participating companies are only allowed to apply for expenses not covered by the imap grant Companies must not be enjoying any other forms of tax incentives granted under the Singapore Income Tax Act or Economic Expansion Incentives (Relief from Income Tax) Act
Automatic DTD From 1 April 2012, companies are not required to submit their DTD application for approval from IE Singapore or STB for the 4 qualifying activities below, up to the first S$100,000 of qualifying expenses per year of assessment: i) Overseas business development trips/mission ii) Overseas investment study trips/mission iii) Overseas trade fairs and iv) Local trade fairs approved by IE Singapore or STB Need to maintain documentation (Eg purpose and itinerary of the trip, invoices and receipts of qualifying expenses) as proof of expenditure and purpose, should IRAS query.
Expenditure exceeding S$100,000 IE Singapore or STB will continue to approve on a case-by-case basis applications on the other qualifying activities or quantum exceeding the S$100,000. For applications to IE Singapore, please submit via the DTD Incentive Portal at www.iesingapore.com/dtd using SingPass before commencement of the projects For trade fairs in Singapore with Approved International Fair (AIF) status, please submit applications to STB via hardcopy available from their corporate website at www.stb.gov.sg
Double-Tax-Deduction (DTD) Companies are advised to plan and track their expenditure well and seek approval early to avoid being denied their claim for their expenses. If companies are unsure if their total qualifying expenses will exceed S$100,000, they can continue to submit their applications to IE Singapore (via their incentive portal) or STB (manual application) for approval before commencing on any of the qualifying activity.
Participation in OVERSEAS Trade Fairs approved by IE Singapore or STB Qualifying Expenses (up to 2 employees per fair) Stand Rental Stand Design / Decoration Stand Construction Production of Corporate Brochures or Catalogues Freighting of Exhibits Insurance of Exhibits Airfare*^ Hotel Accommodation^ & Meals for the duration of the fair Overseas Transportation * Airfare includes airport tax, fuel surcharge, airfare transaction fees. It excludes GST / GESS / Carrier Surcharge / VAT / Bank Charges / Insurance / Amendment Fees / Excess Baggage. ^ Airfare and hotel will be based on actual expenses incurred regardless of class of travel or hotel room
Participation in LOCAL Trade Fairs approved by IE Singapore or STB Qualifying Expenses (up to 2 employees per fair) Stand Rental Stand Design / Decoration Stand Construction Production of Corporate Brochures or Catalogues Insurance of Exhibits Cost of inviting up to 2 overseas buyers Airfare*^ Hotel Accommodation^ & Meals for the duration of the fair * Airfare includes airport tax, fuel surcharge, airfare transaction fees. It excludes GST / GESS / Carrier Surcharge / VAT / Bank Charges / Insurance / Amendment Fees / Excess Baggage. ^ Airfare and hotel will be based on actual expenses incurred regardless of class of travel or hotel room
