Medical Humanities Aims Encourage bold and intellectually rigorous research applications that address important questions at the interface of medicine, healthrelated sciences, and the wider humanities. Fund research from a wide array of disciplines, using a range of different methods and sources.

Society & Ethics Aims Support research that explores the social and ethical aspects of biomedical research and health, with the ultimate aim of achieving extraordinary improvements in human and animal health. Address tractable, real-world problems and, where possible, link to the Wellcome Trust s five strategic challenges.

Society & Ethics Strands Seeks to consider social, economic and cultural factors that influence health, biomedical or health research, the development and implementation of healthcare practices, and health interventions. Sets out to inform answers to questions about resolving ethical dilemmas arising from biomedical or health research, the development and implementation of healthcare practices, and health interventions.

Assessment Criteria The track record of the candidate The quality and importance of the research question The approach to solving these questions The suitability of the research environment What can you ask for? Anything up to 250,000 per year. Up to 7 years. Direct costs of research: salaries, equipment, travel, consumables, fieldwork. We do not fund on an FEC basis

Awards for Health Care Professionals In MH, the Short Term Research Leave Award for Clinicians & Scientists enables clinicians, scientists, or nurses to undertake research at a centre or department with academic expertise in medical humanities. In S&E, the Research Fellowship for Health Professionals is like the postdoctoral fellowship but allows the grantholder to continue with their practice whilst undertaking a 2-3 year whole time equivalent project or to register for a PhD.

Research Resources Supports projects to catalogue and preserve significant primary source collections in libraries and archives across the UK and Ireland. Tied to Wellcome Trust s Strategic Challenges Three types of award: scoping (< 10K); cataloguing and preservation grants ( 10K- 100K); strategically important projects (> 100K)

Public Engagement Grants People & Society Awards People < 30k, Society > 30k Exhibitions, events & debates, education projects, drama productions, films, festivals Engagement Fellowships Aim to support and develop upcoming stars in public engagement with science Raise the prestige of public engagement Salary (or salary buy-out) for up to 2 years

Public Engagement Grants Arts Awards Two schemes: Small < 30k, Large > 30k Dance, drama, performance arts, visual arts, music, film, craft, photography, creative writing or digital media Projects must involve creation of new work Broadcast Development Awards Seed funding for getting early-stage ideas for TV, radio or new media projects to a pitchable stage
