Page 9 of 13 Community Service Narrative for Rotary Club of Kapolei Sunset For a small club, Rotary Club of Kapolei Sunset (RCKS) members exceeded club leadership expectations by their active participation and enthusiastic support of a number of community service activities that benefitted the State of Hawaii s roadside clean-up campaign, populations with support requirements and special needs, and USVETS. RCKS committed to cleaning a 2-mile portion of the Farrington Highway between Kapolei and Ko Olina through the State s Adopt-A-Highway program. While this program requires quarterly cleanings, our club members have embraced a bi-monthly schedule with over 50-60% average club participation. Our club was featured in the Highway Division s quarterly newsletter and received an award for AAH Club of the Quarter (Oct-Dec 2017). On average, our 10 members collect 40 bags and an assortment of large objects for pickup at each session. RCKS members have nurtured a close support relationship with Women in Need (WIN), a transition home and support program for abused women and those in transition from imprisonment. RCKS provides toiletry kits or sheets/towels/laundry products on a monthly basis. Club members have donated disposable diapers, furniture, clothing and other household items, as well. Then WIN relocated their Waianae group home to a larger home in Halawa. At the new home, teams (attendance from 3 to 10 members) have utilized monthly work weekends to plan and transform an overgrown and weed infested yard into a picturesque succulent plant and herbal garden that is being weeded and maintained by WIN residents with WIN gardening assistance. Members provided and spread bulk pea gravel, with help from women and children at the shelter at a Garden Work Day in March. After the devastating Marco Polo condominium high-rise fire in late 2017, RCKS teamed with Honolulu and other District clubs to schedule a Fun Day for the displaced children who had to evacuate. Our club s President Elect contacted High Jump Hawaii and obtained an all-day Bounce House rental for the residents children at the parking structure event site. Additionally, members collected items for distributing 80 grab bags to the children s delight! For Thanksgiving, RCKS teamed with the Kapolei morning club to serve meals to over 60 veterans at the US VETS residence facility at Barbers Point. In addition, both clubs donated gently used clothes, hygiene items, bedding, and gift cards, for homeless veterans. For our projected Rotary at Work Day in April 2018, RCKS and its IPA Interact Club will provide a half-day of volunteer work on the USS Missouri. For DG Flinn s Nimitz Highway Homeless Project, RCKS members donated household items, children s clothing and supplies, and other house warming items for a designated home that our club was assigned. Finally, RCKS's President Elect learned that Special Needs students at Nanakuli Intermediate and High School only had access to old, used, and worn equipment for their Adaptive Physical Education program. As a result, RCKS decided to provide $700 in club funds and then with the help of several members, purchased and delivered to the teachers and students new balls, exercise mats, and other requested items. Now these students can participate in exercise programs with pride. In addition our President contacted the KoOlina Sport Club and was able to secure 20 like new floor mats for use in the Adaptive Physical Education program. Page 9 of 13 Community Service Narrative of the Rotary Club of Upcountry Maui The Rotary Club of Upcountry Maui participates in Highway Cleanup quarterly. We collected e- cycle in November from the Upcountry Community as well as our Christmas Tree pickup. We participate in the Food Drive, this December at Safeway in Kahului. We are happy to be returning Upcountry to the Pukalani Foodland in April RCUM joined the Kahului Club in their Weinberg Project at MEO s Headstart Program located at Ka Hale A Ke Ola Homeless Resource Center in January. Our Service Projects are entered into Rotary Club Central as goals and then as accomplishments. It is an easy way to keep track of volunteer hours as well as money/good earned and donated. Donating dictionaries to the 3 rd graders is a valuable literacy activity.

Page 9 of 14 Community Service Narrative for Rotary Club of Waianae WCRC is an active club of 31 members and conducted 40 projects this year. Highlighting is our annual Christmas Parade Honoring District Governor Nalani Flinn. This is the largest event on the Westside where approximately 2000 participants from 80 organizations and estimated 4000 people observing the parade. Other outstanding projects are our Calendar Contest for our Dictionary Fund and our involvement in the Hawaii Hazards Awareness & Resilience Program (HHARP) and Waianae Coast Disaster Readiness Team as the core group developing a Disaster Preparedness on the Waianae Coast. Waianae planned and coordinated District 5000 RYLA on November 24-26, 2017, at Pokai Bay and Our Lady of Keaau. Over 80 students from Oahu to include the children from the Liliokalani Trust and Kamehameha Schools. Waianae participated in the Waianae Economic Development Council Youth Leadership Program summit for 100 students on the Waianae Coast. Waianae is also coordinate a cohort group to organize a Westside Interact Club that will involve Nanakuli, Waianae, Kamaile and Kamehameha Schools.
