Aims of the programme The programme aims to: enable senior nurses and midwives to advance and develop their practice and the service provision that they are responsible for through a reflective and critical consideration of:- developing nursing and midwifery at higher (university) education level leadership in public and community services service delivery and quality enhancement theoretical frameworks and concepts undertaking a research based project that will add to the body of knowledge in the fields of nursing or midwifery in their country of practice 11. Programme outcomes A. Knowledge and understanding On completion of this programme the successful student will have knowledge and understanding of : 1. Mastery in pedagogy and education of nurses and midwives within the context of learning and teaching in tertiary education. 2. Contemporary models and practice in leading public and community services 3. Frameworks for service delivery and quality enhancement in health care settings 4. Theoretical frameworks and concepts related to health care decision making 5. The process of research design, implementation and analysis (MSc students only) B. Cognitive (thinking) skills On completion of this programme the successful student will be able to: 1. Critically evaluate written and orally presented information 2. Reflect on their own practice and develop new ways of enhancing their practice and service provision. 3. Critically apply theoretical frameworks and concepts to the Teaching/learning methods Students gain knowledge and understanding through: Acquisition of specialist knowledge and understanding through small group lectures, seminars, online learning workshops and through undertaking individual research and research projects. MSc students will undertake an individual research project. 12. 1 Overall structure of the programme The programme is designed to be studied over 15 month s full time and 24-30 months. Part time students may study up to 90 credits a year. The maximum length of registration for full time students is 24-30 months and for part time students is 48-60 months. There are three potential exit points that build upon one another Post Graduate Certificate in Higher (Teaching and Supporting Learning) Students who successfully complete the following modules LED4001, LED4002 and LED 4003 will achieve 60 credits at Level 7 and will be eligible for the award of Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Teaching & Supporting Learning. On payment of an individual additional fee they will be eligible to apply for Fellowship of the Higher Academy (HEA) to the HEA directly. Post Graduate Diploma Advanced Professional Studies (Nursing) or (Midwifery) Students who successfully complete LED4001, LED4002, LED 4003, NSA 4007, NSA 4004, NSA 4100 and NSA 4200 will achieve 120 credits at level 7 and will be eligible for the award of Post Graduate Diploma Advanced Professional in Nursing/Midwifery. On payment of an individual additional fee they will be eligible to apply for Fellowship of the Higher Academy(HEA) to the HEA directly. MSc Advanced Professional Studies (Nursing) or (Midwifery) Students who successfully complete all the taught modules above and NSA 4050 will achieve 180 credits at Level 7 and will be eligible for the award of MSc Advanced Professional Studies in Nursing/Midwifery.
