Laurie-Walton Family Basketball Center

Project Highlights Celebrating nearly a century of University of Memphis basketball, the new Laurie-Walton Family Basketball Center showcases this rich history and positions University of Memphis student-athletes to be champions on and off the court. Working in harmony with the University, AECOM designed the facility to provide all of the athletic and academic elements required for total student-athlete development, making it the next generation of facilities. The center also serves as a vibrant athletics front door, welcoming the Tigers faithful in the Hall of Traditions, which features high-impact graphics, interactive media and living exhibits. Emphasizing the student in student-athlete, academic space streamlines student-athlete schedules as they balance time between life, study and practice. Student-athletes enjoy practice on two fullsized basketball courts, train with state-of-theart strength and conditioning equipment and rehabilitate with some of the most advanced hydrotherapy equipment available. Multiple large-scale television monitors strategically placed throughout the facility keep players aware of schedules, diet and workout regimens. An LED ticker streams live social media tweets and posts within the facility, keeping staff, players and fans connected to the Tigers community. 2 University of Memphis Laurie-Walton Family Basketball Center

We are proud to partner with the Laurie- Walton family and all of our donors to make this dream a reality. The University of Memphis is driven by doing, and this facility proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that this University is moving forward and upward. With increased enrollment, several ongoing construction projects and an engaged and active faculty and staff, this project is yet another reminder that the very best days for the University of Memphis are ahead of us. Dr. M. David Rudd President, University of Memphis

Developing the student in student-athlete A place to study Largest dedicated academic space on the Park Avenue Campus. Continuing excellence A 100 percent increase in square footage dedicated to academic space helps maintain leadership status in conference academics. Streamlining schedules Located within the training facility, the academic center offers optimal opportunity for players to further their studies while eliminating the burden of traveling to an off-site study location. Team video study A theatre-style room for studying practice and game video is connected directly to the practice court, allowing the student-athlete and coaches to immediately implement lessons learned through video. 8 University of Memphis Laurie-Walton Family Basketball Center

The Laurie-Walton Family Basketball Center is truly the next generation of facilities as it bridges the rich history of the Memphis men s basketball program to our present and future success. I am deeply humbled by the generosity of our donors, and especially the Laurie-Walton Family, who have made this 100 percent donorfinanced facility possible. It is a place that the University, the City of Memphis and all of Tiger nation can be immensely proud to call their own. Tom Bowen Athletic Director, University of Memphis

This wonderful new basketball practice facility will help us recruit and develop these young men in mind, spirit and body. This facility will help us continue to strive for excellence on and off the court and give us a better chance to compete for championships. We are so fortunate to call the Laurie-Walton Family Basketball Center our own. It is the best basketball facility in college basketball today! Orlando Tubby Smith Head Coach, University of Memphis

Next-generation training powered by technology Wellness technology A key focus is the overall health and well-being of student-athletes through a dedication to health and recovery. The new basketball center is fully loaded with the technology needed to elevate performance and optimize time on the court. Hydrotherapy pools and a modern Hydro computer work in concert to maximize the effectiveness of therapy and treatment. Underwater treadmill pool for quicker rehabilitation and flexibility in treatment. Video monitors throughout the facility, keeping staff and players up-to-date on schedule, diet and workout regimens. Practice court is laid with maple hardwood, which is designed to aid in player recovery and lessen the shock to knees, hips and ankles.
